Specialised Part-Time CNC Machining Consulting OpportunityWe are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced CNC machining professionals with strong hands-on production expertise and the ability to evaluate machining strategies, safety, tooling, and manufacturability. This role supports the development of a high-quality CNC manufacturing evaluation dataset. Selected professionals will apply real production-floor judgement to create and validate objective grading criteria, assess machining approaches against provided CAD models and manufacturing constraints, and explain whether proposed solutions would be suitable for an actual production run.Key ResponsibilitiesCNC Machining EvaluationEvaluate proposed CNC machining approaches for technical feasibility and production readinessAssess whether machining strategies can be executed safely and reliably on real equipmentReview solutions against provided CAD models, stock materials, machine configurations, and available toolingIdentify unsafe, inefficient, or impractical machining decisionsApply hands-on production judgement when determining pass or fail outcomesManufacturing Rubric DevelopmentDevelop objective and verifiable grading rubrics for CNC machining solutionsDefine clear criteria reflecting real-world manufacturing requirementsTranslate practical machining knowledge into structured text-based evaluation standardsEnsure rubric criteria can be applied consistently across different machining solutionsCreate evaluation standards that distinguish production-ready approaches from technically weak or unsafe alternativesTooling & Process AssessmentEvaluate tooling selection, machining sequences, setup decisions, and process planningAssess workholding, stock considerations, tool accessibility, and machine limitationsIdentify potential collisions, unsafe setups, or process constraintsReview machining approaches for practical manufacturability and executionConsider production efficiency, reliability, and machining quality when assessing solutionsVerification & Technical ReasoningWrite clear verification rationale supporting each evaluation criterionExplain why particular machining decisions should be accepted or rejectedReview sample solutions and document pass/fail reasoningIdentify missing information or assumptions affecting manufacturabilityProduce concise, technically precise written assessments grounded in real machining practiceQuality Review & EvaluationValidate grading criteria for clarity, objectivity, and technical accuracyReview completed rubrics and sample evaluations for internal consistencyIdentify ambiguous criteria or evaluation standards requiring refinementEnsure assessments reflect realistic CNC manufacturing conditionsContribute to reliable evaluation standards for advanced AI and manufacturing workflowsIdeal Profile5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experienceStrong practical knowledge of CNC manufacturing and production-floor workflowsDemonstrated ability to determine whether a machining approach would run safely and effectively in productionExperience interpreting CAD models, stock requirements, tooling constraints, and machining setupsStrong understanding of machining strategy, workholding, tooling, feeds and speeds, and production considerationsAbility to identify unsafe, impractical, or inefficient machining approachesStrong written English proficiency and ability to explain technical decisions clearlyComfortable producing detailed text-based evaluations and verification rationaleExperience with Haas machines, particularly the VF-2, is advantageousFamiliarity with Makera Carvera or comparable hobbyist CNC platforms is also valuedEngagement DetailsPart-time independent contractor engagementFully remote and open globallyFlexible scheduling based on project requirementsCompensation: $110–$165/hourAll project deliverables are text-basedProjects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performanceWork must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third partyAbout the PlatformThis opportunity is available through 24-MAG LLC.
