What is a from home physics simulation job?

A work from home physics simulation job involves using computer software to create, test, and analyze models that represent physical systems from a remote location. Professionals in this role may work in fields like engineering, research, or education, and use simulations to study phenomena such as fluid dynamics, mechanics, or electromagnetism. They often collaborate with teams online, interpret results, and help solve real-world problems using virtual experiments. This job typically requires a strong background in physics, programming, and mathematical modeling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a physics simulation specialist working from home?

To thrive as a Physics Simulation Specialist working from home, you generally need a strong background in physics or engineering, advanced mathematical skills, and experience with simulation methodologies, often backed by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation software such as MATLAB, COMSOL, or ANSYS, and familiarity with programming languages like Python or C++, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective remote communication distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are essential for delivering accurate simulations, collaborating effectively with remote teams, and driving innovation in physics-based modeling.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working on physics simulation projects from home, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals conducting physics simulation work from home often face challenges such as limited access to high-performance computing resources, slower communication with team members, and difficulties in software licensing or remote troubleshooting. To address these issues, many companies provide remote access to powerful servers, use cloud-based simulation platforms, and facilitate regular virtual meetings for collaboration. Clear documentation, version control systems, and online support channels also help ensure smooth workflow and effective problem-solving in a remote environment.

Job description

A Snapshot of Your Day
This role offers you the opportunity to work in a dynamic engineering environment focused on industrial gas turbine development. You will collaborate with global and cross-functional teams on component design, manufacturability improvements, technical problem-solving, and technology advancement, while continuously expanding your expertise through practical experience and training.
In this position, you will play a key role in improving the design and manufacturing of complex turbine components. You will drive the development and validation of advanced simulation methods, including process modeling and defect prediction, to integrate manufacturability early in the design cycle. Your work will help reduce defects, lead times, and costs while increasing product reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Contribution to the design and optimization of turbine hot gas path components with a focus on performance, durability, and manufacturability
  • Development and application of high-fidelity casting simulation methodologies for robust and high-yield foundry processes
  • Integration of manufacturability considerations into early-stage turbine component design through upstream simulation approaches
  • Development of innovative cooling technologies balancing thermal performance, manufacturability, and casting feasibility
  • Cross-functional collaboration with design, materials, and manufacturing teams to establish simulation-driven Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) workflows
  • Identification and resolution of complex casting challenges through advanced modeling, data-driven analysis, validation activities, and continuous enhancement of simulation methodologies.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field
  • Industrial experience in simulation and manufacturing processes, supporting areas like:
    • Turbomachinery
    • Turbine hot gas path components
    • Thermal design
    • Fluid systems
    • Related engineering applications
  • An understanding of multi-physics simulation principles and Design for Manufacturability (DfM)
  • 5+ years' experience w/ FEA, CFD, and CAD tools, including advanced 3D simulation such as:
    • ProCAST
    • STAR-CCM+
    • Simcenter 3D
    • ANSYS
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, leveraging strong initiative, self-motivation, self-management, and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
