Job description


Server Administrator    
As the Server Administrator you will be part of a team that helps support and enhance Arcwood's IT infrastructure. This role will maintain responsibility for our cloud tenants, virtual servers, vendor appliances, and core infrastructure services while contributing to initiatives for system reliability, security and performance.  

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and consistently maintaining safe practices
  • Effectively prioritizes and resolves Service Requests, Incidents, and Change Tickets to support operations and personnel
  • Provides support to the Service Desk by supporting Linux server-related issues including performance, storage, networking and services
  • Adheres to change control practices to minimize impacts and support operations
  • Ensures cloud tenants, virtual servers, vendor appliances and core infrastructure services are optimally operational with minimal disruption to business operations
  • Manages backup, restore validation, and disaster recovery operations for Linux systems (snapshots, file-level restore, and recovery testing)
  • Supports Linux workloads in cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP), including IAM basics, networking and VM lifecycle operations
  • Completes Linux hardening (CIS benchmarks), patching, least-privilege access and vulnerability remediation to support security and compliance
  • Adheres to, and creates updates for, process documentation as needed to ensure alignment across internal practices
  • Participates in or leads specialty projects in parallel with normal tasks and responsibilities
  • Provides Tier 3 server troubleshooting and support, including on-call rotation, and after-hours support
  • Maintains the ability to travel occasionally as needed up to 20%
  • Maintains the ability to work from an Arcwood office 4 days per week and remotely 1 day per week
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Experience: 
  • 5+ years of administration/support experience with enterprise Linux (RHEL/Rocky/Ubuntu) servers in on-premises and virtualized environments (required) -OR-
  • In lieu of degree, 10+ years administration/support experience with enterprise Linux (RHEL/Rocky/Ubuntu) servers in on-premises and virtualized environments (required)
  • Experience in the administration of Linux service and OS components including system, journald, package management, yum/dnf/apt, kernel and filesystem basics (required)
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and managing virtual machines (VMware and/or KVM), with an emphasis on Linux guest performance, storage and networking (required)
  • Experience in deployment and configuration of monitoring/logging (e.g. Prometheus/node_exporter, Grafana, ELK/Opensearch) and alerting workflows (required)
Competencies:
  • Solid understanding of Linux identity, authentication, and access controls (SSSD, LDAP/FreeIPA integration, sudoers), plus TCP/IP fundamentals, DNS and DHCP
  • Ability to complete configuration management and standardization using tools such as Ansible or equivalent
  • Ability to write and review Bash (and basic Python) scripts for support and automation
  • Familiarity with vendor appliances and platforms supporting Linux ecosystems (backup, file shares, storage, DR and monitoring)
  • Knowledge of ITIL-based service delivery for Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Capacit Management and Configuration Management
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues independently; demonstrates accountability and sound judgment
  • Holds self and others accountable to a high standard
  • Employs Think-Plan-Do Review and critical-thinking process for all tasks, large or small
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to gain alignment with different stakeholders and represent a common view; ability to build strong business partnerships
