Summary of Job Duties:The Medical Assistant, (MA), works under the direct supervision of the clinic physician by assisting in the examination and treatment of patients. The MA will conduct patient interviews and complete all required screenings, measure vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information in patients' Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The MA will also draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. May also perform EKGs, bladder scans, or other approved procedures. Also prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients and ensures exam rooms are stocked with supplies needed for patient care activities. The MA may perform administrative tasks such as registering and scheduling patients for appointments and procedures, processing incoming faxes and records to be sent to HIM, sending outgoing faxes, answering phones, and performing pre-visit tele-health patient calls for data collection. The Medical Assistant with Advanced training will administer medications and injections within scope per facility policy.

  • High School Diploma or GED Plus Successful Completion of Medical Assistant training program.

  • Collect lab samples and complete necessitated documentation for submission to lab.

  • Collects/records patients' data, acquires patient vital signs, document screenings and concerns for provider review in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Utilize skills such as phlebotomy and prepare lab specimens for processing.

  • Perform additional skills such as EKG's, bladder scans, dressing changes, set up for and assist provider with procedures and examinations, and prepare/stock supplies required for patient care in exam rooms.

  • Administer medications and injections within scope per facility policy.

  • Manage the patient appointment schedule by balancing medical needs with patients' timetable.

  • Greet all patients/customers in professional and courteous manner upon arrival at clinic.

  • Register and check-out patients, collect payments, issue receipts, and verify insurance coverage.

  • Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.

  • Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.

  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.
