Job description

Water Resources Engineer - Stormwater & Flood Control
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Employment Type: Full-time, On-site - $50 to $65/ hr

A leading Northern California civil engineering firm is seeking a Water Resources Engineer for their Pleasanton office to tackle complex stormwater, flood control, and hydrology challenges across land development and public infrastructure projects in the Bay Area and beyond. This role offers hands-on technical work with growth potential into more senior responsibilities.

Role Overview

Join a collaborative team of engineers working on both private development drainage solutions and public works infrastructure. You'll apply hydrology and hydraulics expertise to real-world projects, with opportunities to work independently or alongside seasoned professionals, while gaining exposure to broader civil engineering tasks like utility design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design storm drain systems, open-channel and closed-conduit hydraulics, and surface hydrology improvements.

  • Develop master drainage plans, conduct flood studies, and create stormwater management strategies.

  • Run rainfall-runoff modeling and 1D/2D hydraulic simulations for accurate analysis.

  • Support drainage and flood control elements for residential/commercial developments and public agency projects.

  • Prepare technical memos, calculations, exhibits, and supporting documentation.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to deliver compliant, efficient designs.

  • Assist with project management duties on land development and infrastructure initiatives.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • 3-7 years of civil engineering experience focused on California stormwater systems, flood control, hydrology, and hydraulics.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel).

  • Hands-on experience with hydrologic/hydraulic models such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, XPStorm, or similar platforms (e.g., InfoWorks, WaterCAD).

  • Strong technical writing skills and clear verbal communication.

  • Desire to learn, collaborate, and progressively take on more project ownership.

  • Bonus: Experience with private land development drainage or public infrastructure projects.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly pay range of $50-$65, based on experience, licensure, and technical skills.

  • Performance bonuses and profit-sharing/401(k) plan participation.

  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage with health savings account contributions, life/disability insurance, tuition assistance or student loan support, and wellness programs.

  • Team-focused culture with flexible scheduling, regular social events, and emphasis on work ethic and camaraderie.

Must be authorized to work in the United States. If you have a passion for hydrology and stormwater solutions and want to advance your career in a dynamic, client-driven engineering environment, we encourage you to apply.

  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision coverage, health savings account contributions, life/disability insurance, and wellness programs.

  • Potential for student loan repayment assistance or tuition support.

  • Flexible work schedules, regular team social events, and a collaborative office culture with strong emphasis on work-life balance and camaraderie.
