Description
Duties:
The Title III Student Peer Mentor will engage and connect current HCC students enrolled in First-Year Experience.
  • Support First-Year Experience (FYE) students providing personalized appropriate supports.
  • Attend assigned First-Year Experience (FYE) course lectures.
  • Assist First-Year Experience (FYE) students with appropriate social engagement within the Hagerstown Community College community.
  • Provide appropriate modeling of classroom etiquette.
  • Support First-Year Experience (FYE) students to advocate for the accessibility of course material - as relevant.
  • Assist with executive functioning, organization, time management, study skills, test-taking skills, and assistive technology.
  • Must be available to assist with New Student Orientation in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Weekly check-ins with the Title III Retention Activity Coordinator on the progress of students in the First-Year Experience course.

Special Skills Needed:
  • Campus involvement, leadership ability, communication skills, and interest and enthusiasm to work with other students.

Additional Information: Start date for this position will be at the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester.
Requirements
  • Current HCC student enrolled in 9+ credits for the Fall 2026 semester, with 15 earned credits from a wide range of transfer and career programs areas at the college.
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Active member of student clubs and organizations and participate in college activities.
