Job description

Residential Generator Technician | Generac, Kohler & Cummins

Keep Southwest Florida Powered When It Matters Most

United Electric is looking for a Generator Technician who takes pride in doing things the right way.

We're not looking for someone who just changes oil and moves on to the next stop. We're looking for a team member who cares about quality, pays attention to the details, communicates well with customers, and takes ownership of their work.

This position is focused primarily on residential standby generators, including Generac, Kohler, and Cummins systems. Most of our work involves maintenance, inspections, startups, testing, and light troubleshooting of air-cooled generators serving homeowners throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

If you enjoy mechanical work, electrical systems, problem solving, and helping customers prepare for storm season, we'd like to talk with you.

Why Join United Electric?

At United Electric, our success is built on five core values:

One Team

We support one another, communicate openly, and work together to serve our customers.

Integrity & Trust

We do what we say we're going to do. We believe honesty and professionalism matter.

Ownership & Accountability

We take responsibility for our work, our customers, and our results.

Work Ethic

We show up, work hard, stay focused, and continuously improve.

Excellence in Craft & Service

We take pride in quality workmanship and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

If these values describe how you approach your work, you'll fit right in.

What You'll Do

  • Perform routine maintenance on residential standby generators
  • Complete oil changes, filter replacements, battery testing, and scheduled service
  • Perform startup and commissioning of newly installed generator systems
  • Test and inspect automatic transfer switches
  • Diagnose and resolve generator performance issues
  • Conduct annual inspections and load testing
  • Document findings with photos and digital reports
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners
  • Identify repairs and improvements that help customers protect their homes during outages

The Ideal Candidate

You don't necessarily need years of generator experience.

We can help the right person learn the generator side if you already possess strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to quality.

We especially encourage applicants with experience in:

  • Generator service
  • Electrical work
  • Automotive repair
  • Small engine repair
  • Military mechanical experience
  • Equipment maintenance

What We're Looking For

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Dependable attendance
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • Basic technology skills for service documentation
  • Desire to learn and grow within the company

What This Position Is NOT

To avoid confusion, this position is primarily focused on:

- Residential standby generators

- Generator maintenance and service

- Generator startups and inspections

- Customer interaction and preventative maintenance

This is not industrial generator work, diesel engine work, or large commercial power generation service.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Company vehicle for qualified technicians
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off
  • Ongoing manufacturer training
  • Certification opportunities
  • Year-round work
  • Opportunity to become a recognized generator specialist
  • Supportive team environment with a strong culture

Join a Company That Values Its People

At United Electric, we're building more than generators and electrical systems. We're building a team of professionals who care about their craft, their customers, and each other.

If you're looking for a long-term career with a company that values integrity, accountability, teamwork, and excellence, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and help keep Southwest Florida powered when it matters most.
