Job description

Position Overview Under general supervision, performs core elements of the Radiation Protection Program as assigned by supervision and management. Typical responsibilities include assisting and supporting Radiation Protection leads and supervisors in implementing radiological monitoring, controls, and processes to ensure radioactive materials and radiation-generating equipment are managed in compliance with procedures, policies, contractual requirements, safety guidelines, managerial direction, and DOE Orders. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned.

Functional: Provides technical, administrative, and functional support to Radiation Protection management. Participates in planning radiological work, monitoring radiological areas, generating radiological work permits, and establishing work controls. Performs quantitative measurements and documents results for radioactive material shipments, free release of excess material, and waste from the site.

Supports ES&H activities in the field including atmospheric monitoring, safety evaluations, self-assessments, and chemical hygiene control programs. Recommends corrective measures to reduce contamination levels when excessive contamination is detected. Demonstrates proficiency across a wide range of radiation protection and ES&H support activities.

Mentors less experienced technicians. Performs complex tasks related to radiological, industrial, and chemical safety. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent

3+ years of operational health physics experience. One year of experience in the DOE/NNSA complex or a Gaseous Diffusion Enrichment facility.Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. 3+ years of operational health physics experience
