Job Summary: 
The Freight Claims Specialist is a full-time role responsible for processing, investigating, and resolving freight claims. This includes gathering documentation, analyzing loss and damage exceptions to determine liability, negotiating settlements with claimants, and providing clients with regular updates on outstanding claims. The role requires at least one year of experience in the transportation industry and a working knowledge of freight claims practices.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Processes and files freight claims   

  • Negotiates and settles claims directly with the claimants 

  • Helps improve current training process, materials, and assists in increasing efficiency 

  • Works diligently to get freight claims paid in a timely manner  

  • Investigates and analyzes product exceptions to determine liability, mitigate loss and provide updates of freight 

  • Investigates and analyzes overage and high value shortage exceptions to determine location and state of freight 

  • Identifies and gathers documents and materials related to customer claims such as product information, including manuals, product warning labels, packaging, certificates of insurance, test reports, changes in product design and other evidentiary documents 

  • Provides weekly reporting to clients on outstanding claims 

  • Updates claims website with latest information from carriers 

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to de-escalate conflict 

  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task 

  • Collaborate with team to troubleshoot issues 

  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment  

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred 

  • At least one year in the transportation and logistics industry 

  • At least one year in a freight claims role preferred 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, and office equipment; ability to access file cabinets and items stored at various levels, including overhead 

  • Able to lift up to 15lbs at times 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 

  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, draw valid conclusions, and make sound decisions 

  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours) 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably in person, over the telephone, and in group settings
