Position Description: Residential Field Inspector


We are seeking an individual located in Utah to provide post-installation inspections and perform assessments for energy efficiency measures in homes supporting utility programs, including but not limited to, HVAC, insulation, windows, and water heating. You will work directly with utility customers to schedule and conduct in-home inspections to verify energy efficiency measures and projects were properly installed. You will perform energy assessments to bring awareness to energy saving opportunities and drive program participation via virtual and field visits. There will be a very high focus on customer service and satisfaction and meeting the standards of our utility clients. Positive relationships with trade allies, customers and program partners are a key element of the position, which requires extensive daily local and regional travel. The successful applicant will be a self-starter, will be highly organized and accountable with good communication skills and with a focus on meeting the needs of our clients and their customers.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide in-home, field and virtual, inspection activities, energy assessments and services to utility residential customers in support of regulated utility energy efficiency programs; Support sales and installation efforts of trade allies with their customers to ensure proper sales and installation of utility program offerings and energy efficiency products;
  • Support internal team with training for trade ally and/or utility representatives for energy and energy efficiency initiatives, programs and tools;
  • Support internal team with communications and information for contractors, distributors and other market actors to understand and promote the proper sales and installation of energy efficiency program offerings.
  • Support internal team with participation and presentation of company, client, program and industry trainings, communications and program implementation efforts to drive accurate and successful results to meet client and customer needs;
  • Define, develop and execute field inspection plans that support the utility program initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate activity and project tracking records to document scheduling, inspections and customer service efforts and activities.
  • Support administrative team with detailed inspection reports and customer assessment reports

Position Qualifications:


  • Experience in construction, inspections, utility and/or energy-efficiency industries, lighting, HVAC and/or utility customer service;
  • Field inspections and/or in-home services; Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with home services, inspections, HVAC and/or supply channel technologies in an energy or utility environment is a plus;
  • Problem solving skills and ability to discover and implement innovative improvements and/or solutions;
  • Self-starter who is highly detail oriented, organized, individually accountable, a team player and results focused;
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills, past customer service experience with utility or residential services is a plus;
  • The ability to work well in a virtual independent and team setting and provide exceptional customer service both internally and externally required;
  • Microsoft Office and general software applications proficiency;
  • Partial US regional travel and extensive local travel required, including use of personal vehicle. Some overnight stays may be required.


Preferred Skills/Experience:


  • High School diploma with higher education or vocational degree, certification and training specializing in field inspection services, sales, marketing, lighting, HVAC, construction management, energy efficiency, and/or the utility industries;
  • BPI certifications are a plus
  • A college degree is not required, but candidates must demonstrate continued education in alignment with their career goals;
  • Preferred minimum 1-year experience in customer service, field inspections, utility, electrical, HVAC, construction, sales and/or energy efficiency industries;
  • Previous home office, remote work experience helpful but not required;
  • Valid driver's license, dependable transportation along with verifiable insurance is required.



Physical Efforts: May be physically demanding, depending on tasks, such as:


  • Long periods of standing/walking on rough/uneven surfaces;
  • Use of ladders and/or going into tight spaces such as attics, crawl spaces, etc.;
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods working on a computer;
  • Driving of personal vehicle extensively on a daily basis and/or over long distances regionally;
  • Ability to occasionally travel via commercial airlines;
  • Speak/hear. Provide clear, accurate communication, hear telephone & warning devices.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Entering personal residences with varied and uncertain conditions and environments;
  • Around high noise levels and energized electrical equipment (at times);
  • Moving mechanical parts (at times);
  • Perform work in all weather conditions;
  • Driving up to 3-4 hours or more on paved/unpaved roads.
