Job description

IBM ELM Digital Thread Architect (Hybrid) – Aerospace


Kronos Consulting is seeking an experienced IBM ELM Digital Thread Architect to support the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise engineering lifecycle management solutions for safety-critical aerospace programs. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining the IBM ELM/Jazz platform, enabling Requirements-Based Engineering (RBE), Digital Thread initiatives, and end-to-end traceability across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Thread & Enterprise Integration

  • Design, implement, and maintain integrations between IBM ELM and enterprise systems, including PLM, CAD, ERP, and MES platforms.
  • Develop and support Digital Thread architectures that provide end-to-end traceability across engineering, manufacturing, software, and hardware development activities.
  • Build linked-data integrations using OSLC, REST APIs, and middleware technologies.
  • Define data synchronization and federation strategies to establish a single source of truth across the product lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain configuration management links between systems engineering data and product structures, including As-Designed and As-Built BOMs.

Aerospace Compliance & Safety Management

  • Configure and align IBM ELM workflows to support ARP4754A/B aerospace development processes.
  • Support Development Assurance Level (DAL) management and traceability activities.
  • Generate traceability, verification, and compliance reporting required for certification audits and system reviews.
  • Ensure alignment with industry standards including DO-178C, DO-254, and ARP4754A/B.

IBM ELM Platform Administration

  • Serve as the primary administrator and architect for the IBM ELM suite, including:
    • DOORS Next Generation (DNG)
    • Engineering Workflow Management (EWM)
    • Engineering Test Management (ETM)
    • Rhapsody
    • Global Configuration Management (GCM)
    • Jazz Team Server (JTS)
  • Configure project areas, workflows, permissions, user access, and templates.
  • Monitor system health, troubleshoot performance issues, and maintain platform availability.

Workflow, Testing & Compliance

  • Partner with Systems Engineering and Quality teams to align engineering workflows and verification processes.
  • Manage change requests, defect tracking, sprint planning, and workflow automation.
  • Maintain compliance with aerospace regulatory, quality, and security requirements.

Customization & Reporting

  • Develop automation tools, integrations, scripts, and plugins using JavaScript, Python, REST APIs, and OSLC.
  • Design and maintain dashboards, metrics, and compliance reporting solutions.
  • Support executive-level visibility through enterprise reporting and analytics tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting engineering lifecycle management, systems engineering tools, or digital engineering environments.
  • Hands-on experience administering and configuring the IBM ELM Suite.
  • Experience integrating IBM ELM with enterprise engineering systems such as Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE, Cameo, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Requirements-Based Engineering (RBE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience with OSLC integrations, REST APIs, scripting, and workflow automation.
  • Familiarity with Agile, SAFe, and traditional development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace industry experience supporting safety-critical systems development.
  • Experience with Digital Thread and Digital Engineering initiatives.
  • IBM ELM certifications or advanced platform administration experience.
  • Knowledge of aircraft certification, compliance, and verification processes.
  • Experience developing enterprise dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or IBM reporting tools.
