Job description

POSITION:           Part-time District Courier, contracted through Edustaff

LOCATION:         Brandon School District


DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:  

The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County.  The district has approximately 1000 students from preschool through 5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 500 students at the middle school level and approximately 600 at the high school.  Brandon is also home to the Summit Virtual School.  This small, tight-knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth.  Brandon High School sends 80-85% of its graduates to post-secondary schools each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the most recent top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record to drive district vehicles
  • 18 years of age or older

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESS:

  • Ability to operate District equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Pleasant, tactful and able to represent the District in a positive manner
  • Ability to follow directions, plan tasks, and work independently
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers, students and District staff
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record during the course of employment
  • Ability to maintain confidential information


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Drives a District vehicle over a designated route in accordance with an established time schedule: picking up and delivering inter-school and miscellaneous district mail, materials and supplies
  • Loads and unloads supplies, materials and equipment with the use of a dolly
  • Maintains delivery and pick-up schedules in accordance with established standards
  • Runs errands, delivers mail to the post office and makes special deliveries, as needed
  • Picks up and delivers U.S. and inter-school mail from post office and school sites
  • Delivers packages between buildings
  • Runs mail through the postage machine
  • May assist with various tasks as time permits
  • Performs related duties as required


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate
  • The position requires multi-tasking and the ability to focus in a distracting environment
  • Strenuous activity is common
  • Required to work in the outdoor elements as needed

REPORTS TO:                        Maintenance Supervisor

WORKDAY/WEEK:                 Monday through Friday: 9:30am to 1:30pm; year round

STARTING DATE:                   ASAP

COMPENSATION:                  $15.00 per hour, contracted through Edustaff
