Job Summary:
Regional Bulk Driver Trainer is responsible for the development and oversight of our Operational Training Program.  This job will oversee the application of Safety & Quality Policies/ Procedures for the Trucking & Warehousing operations of the company, as well as effective implementation of these policies. The Training Manager must also direct the resources and activities of the organization to support the safety and quality programs by providing advice and guidance to employees, independent contractors and senior management. The Training Manager must provide leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of all safety & quality processes for the company’s operations, focusing on regulatory agency compliance including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (“FMCSA”), the Department of Transportation (“DOT”) & Department of Occupational Safety and Administration (“OSHA”).
The Regional Bulk Driver Trainer shall continuously strive to improve driver and company employee safety & quality performance to comply with all regulatory agencies rules and regulations. Additionally, this position will assist in the oversight of the activities of the safety & quality team while auditing and visiting our sites and will collaborate in the development, implementation, and constant review of processes, policies, procedures, standards and training strategy for the company’s operations.
 Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Actively engage with all new driver hires in your region to include providing direct onboard training and indirect management and review of all training provided at terminal level.   
  • Provide feedback and advice to Terminal Manager, Bulk Trucking Safety Manager, Bulk Trucking AVP and VP.
  • Conduct Smith System Driver Training with fleet drivers; retrain every two years.
  • Ensure every job and task is completed in accordance with the company’s Prime Rules of Safety and with respect to company-wide standardization and quality control processes and procedures at every terminal.  
  • Develop and deliver site-specific training, as necessary.
  • Exemplify the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
  • Communicate & assist regularly with your counterpart in other regions to keep entire company standardized and in compliance with required training. 
  • Assist Terminal Managers & AVPs, as necessary.
  • Act as the Terminal Manager supernumerary, when required.
  • Remain available to self-dispatch to cover loads in any of the trucking divisions.
  • Document and upload training documents in both the MyPE & EHS systems, and any other required databases/systems.
  • Help management identify personal worthy of consideration for promotion and advancement within the company.
  • Subject matter expert on all applicable driver tools – Super User & Trainer for: PX Drive, Live Load Review, Geo Tab HOS & Exemption Reports, EHS, Netradyne in cab & Training View. 
  • Enthusiastically support all facets of Operation Clean Sweep; specifically, making a conscious effort to prevent pellet, flake and powder loss into the environment and ensure any spills are swiftly and effectively cleaned up.

Qualifications: 
Required Education and Experience
  • Three years of training experience.
  • Minimum education required is high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Class A CDL is required.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Drivers Med Card is required.
  • Some previous general management experience, ideally within the trucking industry.
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment with emphasis on MS Office suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Must be multi-task oriented with a strong ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Must be able to travel, work long hours, to include weekends & holidays, when necessary.
  • Must have 5 years of on the road CMV / Class A, Verifiable driving experience.

Preferred Education and Experience 
  • Some advanced education or working towards a degree
  • Smith Driving System

  • Must be able to work long hours, weekends and holidays when needed.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The job requires long periods of standing while teaching a class.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor such as, routinely lifting up to 55 lbs., moving up to 250 pounds, climbing ladders, operate control panels and working with hand tools.
  • Employee must possess vision abilities required by this job function to include close visual confirmation of finely printed documents, have distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and or markings. Must have peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance.  Must be Fork Lift Certified and maintain proper certification during the employment period.

Licenses/Certificates:  
  • Valid unrestricted Class A state issued driver’s license, and clean DMV record.
  • Completion of DOT & CAL-OSHA Compliance Training (or obtained within first 12 months)
  • Fork Lift Certification
  • Rail Training Certification

Additional Job Details:
  • Must have a high degree of mechanical aptitude, extensive knowledge of motor truck and trailer mechanical functions, maintenance requirements, failure analysis, DOT FMCSA and FMVSS regulations
  • Must be familiar with interstate licensing including IRP, IFTA, and NMTFA

Work Environment: 
Expected to operate in a professional office environment as well as routinely operating in the warehouse and rail yards. Will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and scanners. May be required to use hand tools and work on or under trucks and trailers.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 
This is a full-time position. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Some weekend work will be required. Must be available any time terminal deliveries are taking place.
Travel: 
Up to 30% travel is expected for this position.
