Position Overview
The Long-Term Substitute – Computer Science provides classroom instruction and ensures continuity of learning during the absence of a permanent teacher. The Long-Term Substitute performs the duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher and may also provide instruction in a class that does not have an assigned teacher.
This is a fall 2026 position.
Computer Science Responsibilities
  • Teach Computer Science courses within the Computer Science Pathway in accordance with Georgia state standards.
  • Teach students ethical approaches to competition, user-centered design methods, and project management skills.
  • Maintain and appropriately manage technological resources, including computers, robotics equipment, and other instructional tools, to prevent loss, damage, or misuse.
  • Plan and facilitate in-field experiences, guest speakers, or field trips that provide students with exposure to computer science and related industries.
  • Provide appropriate instructional support and study opportunities for students enrolled in AP Computer Science Principles.
  • Support an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and technological literacy.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom instruction to students in accordance with established lesson plans and instructional expectations.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, needs, and interests of students.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
  • Follow established school and classroom routines, procedures, and expectations.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Remain at school for the entire assigned workday unless otherwise directed by the building principal or designee.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, instructional materials, and school facilities.
  • Establish and maintain reasonable classroom expectations that encourage student self-discipline, responsibility, and positive behavior.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and families as needed.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
  • Monitor and supervise students in the classroom, during lunch, and throughout the school day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with Drew Charter School policies, procedures, and practices.
Qualifications
Required
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Licensure/Certification: STEDI Certificate or Paraprofessional Certificate.
  • Previous Work-Related Experience: None required.
Preferred
  • Licensure: Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) teaching certificate.
Compensation amp; Benefits
  • Compensation: $210 per day
  • Benefits: This position is not eligible for employee benefits.
