What are the key challenges of working remotely as a CNC Swiss programmer, and how can they be managed?

Working from home as a CNC Swiss Programmer presents unique challenges, such as limited access to physical machines for programming validation and the need for clear communication with on-site operators. To manage these challenges, remote programmers often rely heavily on simulation software, detailed process documentation, and frequent video or phone check-ins with the machine shop team. Establishing strong workflow protocols and using secure remote access tools can also help ensure smooth collaboration and minimize errors. Staying organized and proactive in addressing any questions or discrepancies with the on-site staff is key to success in this remote role.

What is a from home CNC Swiss programmer?

A From Home CNC Swiss Programmer is a professional who specializes in programming and operating Swiss-type CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathes, but works remotely from home rather than on-site in a manufacturing facility. They create and optimize code to control the machines, ensuring precise production of complex components, often for industries such as medical devices or aerospace. This role involves using CAD/CAM software, troubleshooting machining issues, and collaborating with teams virtually to meet production requirements. Working from home may require secure access to company networks and strong communication skills to coordinate with other engineers, machinists, and quality assurance staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a from home CNC Swiss programmer?

To excel as a From Home CNC Swiss Programmer, you need expertise in CNC Swiss lathe programming, strong mechanical aptitude, and experience with machining processes, often supported by a technical degree or relevant certifications. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (such as Mastercam or Esprit), G-code programming, and remote desktop tools is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These abilities ensure high-quality, precise production and efficient workflow management, even when working off-site.

Job description

Shape the parts that make flight possible

Step onto our clean, modern aerospace floor and start your day by reviewing prints for a new build. You’ll verify tolerances, choose the right workholding, and set up a multi-axis mill or lathe. After first-article inspection, you’ll dial in offsets, run production, and document measurements with advanced gauges. Before lunch, you might switch to a grinder for a tight-geometry feature. By shift’s end, you’ll hand off a stable process and a clean workstation—knowing the components you made are headed for commercial and defense aircraft.

What you’ll do
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, or grinders; Swiss experience welcome
  • Interpret blueprints and manufacturing specifications to plan safe, efficient machining
  • Perform in-process inspection using gauges and measurement tools; document results
  • Adjust tooling, feeds/speeds, and offsets to hold tight tolerances
  • Collaborate with quality and programming on continuous improvement
What you bring
  • 1+ years running CNC lathes, mills, or grinders (4+ preferred—skill over years matters)
  • Proven CNC setup experience is required
  • Blueprint reading and manufacturing spec interpretation
  • Inspection background with gauges and measurement tools
  • GD&T fundamentals a plus (not required)
  • Backgrounds we love: aerospace, medical, tool & die, automotive, job shops
Tools and tech you may run
  • CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC)
  • CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)
  • CNC Lathe (2–4 axis)
  • CNC Lathe (5+ axis)
  • CNC Swiss Lathe
  • CNC Grinder
Shifts

Openings are available across all three shifts; first shift availability is limited.

Why you’ll love it here
  • 7% bonus paid out in 2024—real dollars on top of base
  • 70+ year privately held company—stable, built to last, no Wall Street pressure
  • World-class, clean aerospace facility (not a job shop)
  • Your work flies—parts go into commercial and defense applications
  • Best-in-class benefits: five medical plans, 100% dental, vision, 401(k) with immediate vesting
  • 13 paid holidays + up to 28 days PTO—generous from day one
  • 100% tuition reimbursement—we invest in your growth
Compliance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (security clearance eligibility required)
  • Must be able to pass apre-employment drug screen, including marijuana
