Title: Home Visitor
Department: MAOF Early Head Start Program (Los Angeles County)
Salary: $27.55 - $29.54 hourly
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Closing Date: Open until filled
General Purpose
Under general supervision the Home Visitor works with the parents and children within the family home environment. Works on a one-on-one basis with the primary caregiver of the child.
- Component Mission
The objectives of the Educational Service Component is to:
- Provide children with a learning environment which will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development.
- To integrate the educational aspects of the various Early Head Start components into the Home Base Curriculum.
- Involve parents in the educational activities of the program.
- To enhance the parents role as the main influence in their child?s education.
- To increase parents knowledge, understanding, skills and experiences in child growth and development.
- Identify and reinforce experiences which occur in the home, which parents utilize as educational activities for their children.
- General Responsibilities and Specific Duties (but not limited to):
- Environmental
- Implements safety rules and supervise children activities in order to ensure their safety.
- Conducts inspection of facilities being used during socializations.
- Assists children during mealtime. Demonstrates appropriate dental and hygiene.
- Developmental and Educational
- Maintains a caseload of 12 families.
- Provides weekly visits to parents and children, minimum of 1 ½ hours.
- Provides 2 socialization experiences for all 12 families.
- Enhance parent?s knowledge on how to developmentally appropriately work with their children.
- Enhance parent?s knowledge on how to utilize materials and resources within the home and community.
- Using programs curriculum, prepares lesson plans according to child and family needs.
- Conducts monthly observations of family and child.
- Using programs assessment tools, conducts child?s educational assessment.
- Implements the Individualized Educational Plan for each child.
- Helps parent to develop the social learning and physical skills of the children during socializations.
- Plans and supervise field trips.
- Conducts Early Head Start Home Base committee meetings.
- Communicates both verbally and in writing with parents and children in their primary language.
- Substitutes in Centers when needed
- Administrative
- Records attendance and participation.
- Prepares and submits required reports timely.
- Maintains and submits all necessary documents.
- Participates in Home Base meetings.
- Attends orientations, in-service training?s, educational, conferences and workshops, as required.
- Relationships
- Supervision
- This position receives direct supervision from the Child Development Supervisor. However, being that it is a field position, the Home Visitor is expected to complete duties as assigned with minimal daily supervision.

- Knowledge and skills required
- Education
- High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Bachelor?s degree in a subject matter related to early childhood education and/or child development from an accredited university.
- A valid (unexpired) California Children?s Center Permit, or a California Child Development Teacher Permit, preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years paid experience working with preschool children.
- Minimum of 24 Units in Child Development.
- Skills
- Skilled in written and oral communication
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and integrity.
- Ability to perform job duties with minimum supervision.
- Health requirements
- Must have verification of T.B. clearance at the time of employment issued within six (6) months prior to employment, to be renewed every year.
- Must pass pre-employment Health Screening, T.B. Test and Drug Screening.
- Must provide vaccination records for influenza, pertussis and measles at the time of employment, annual requirement thereafter.

- Must possess fingerprint clearance at all times during employment.
- Must possess own vehicle at all times, must have valid CA Driver?s License and current automobile insurance.

Home Visitor is assigned to work at the MAOF Early Head Start facility, and is expected to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM ? 5:00 PM.
