Job description

Location: Skid-Row: Downtown Los Angeles, CA

Position Purpose:

The Food Service Worker plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, nutritious, and well-balanced meals to residents in a respectful and dignified manner at the Crocker Residential Care Facility. This position supports all aspects of food service, including meal preparation, dining service, kitchen sanitation, inventory control, and compliance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively as part of a collaborative care team.

Program Population:
The Crocker Residential Care is a licensed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) that provides 24/7 non-medical care and supervision to adults aged 60 and older who live with chronic health conditions. Our program offers a home-like environment with assistance in activities of daily living (ADLs), medication reminders, and a focus on social engagement and independence.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Assist kitchen staff with meal preparation and ensure timely delivery of meals in the dining room and to resident rooms as needed.
  2. Monitor the dining area and respond promptly to resident needs during mealtimes.
  3. Review dietary charts and provide appropriate meals to residents with dietary restrictions.
  4. Accurately portion food in accordance with dietary guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  5. Sanitize and clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools following established protocols.
  6. Maintain accurate inventory records; notify the Food Service Supervisor of needed supplies.
  7. Comply with all local, state, and federal food safety standards and health codes.
  8. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dining environment; reset the dining area after each meal.
  9. Participate in team meetings, safety drills, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  10. Handle all resident-related information in a confidential and professional manner.
  11. Uphold agency policies related to client care, staff conduct, and workplace safety.
  12. Demonstrate professionalism, mutual respect, and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
  13. Report and help resolve any safety hazards or operational issues.
  14. Follow safe food storage, preparation, and disposal protocols to prevent contamination.
  15. Provide friendly, compassionate, and patient-centered service during all meal interactions.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Prior experience in a food service, cafeteria, or kitchen setting preferred.
  3. Experience in community-based, shelter, or healthcare environments is a plus.
  4. Working knowledge of basic food prep, sanitation, and safety practices.
  5. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, multitask, and work independently.
  6. Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  7. Valid Food Handler's Certificate or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  8. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements (not limited to):

  1. Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
  2. Ability to lift and carry up to 25-30 pounds safely.
  3. Capacity to perform repetitive tasks and operate kitchen equipment in a safe manner.
