Job description

About Collective

Collective is on a mission to redefine the way businesses‑of‑one work. Our technology and team of trusted advisors help members achieve financial independence by taking care of everything from business incorporation to accounting, bookkeeping, tax services, and access to a thriving community, all in one integrated platform. We believe in empowering self‑employed people to enjoy the same tax savings that big companies get, so they can focus on their passion, not paperwork.

Featured in Forbes, Business Insider, Yahoo, Bloomberg, Financial Times, TechCrunch, and more. We are backed by General Catalyst, Sound Ventures (Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary), QED Investors, Google’s Gradient Ventures, Expa, and other investors who have financed iconic companies like YouTube, Substack, Twitch, Box, Hims, Instacart, and Lyft.

About the role

We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and evolve the core product experiences that power Collective’s member platform. This is a product engineering role with high ownership across the stack, working closely with Product, Design, and Operations to ship fast and iterate based on real customer needs. You’ll be expected to use modern AI tools and agent‑based workflows to accelerate development, improve code quality, and unlock new product capabilities. This role is ideal for engineers who think in terms of outcomes, not tickets, and who see AI as a core part of how software gets built today.

What you'll do
  • Own features end‑to‑end — define the problem, build the solution, deploy it, and iterate until it works
  • Ship high‑quality, user‑facing product experiences across frontend and backend systems
  • Partner with Product and Design to break down ambiguous problems into simple, effective solutions — then build them
  • Leverage AI‑powered development tools (code generation, copilots, agent workflows) to move faster and cut manual overhead
  • Identify and implement AI capabilities in the product where they meaningfully improve the member experience
  • Ship continuously, instrument what you build, and use customer behavior and feedback to drive the next iteration
  • Make system design decisions that balance speed, scalability, and maintainability — and own the tradeoffs
  • Build and improve developer workflows through automation, internal tooling, and AI‑assisted processes
  • A habit of evaluating new tools, frameworks, and approaches — and a willingness to recommend what works and kill what doesn’t
What you'll bring
  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping production software in a product‑focused environment
  • Strong fullstack engineering skills (e.g., Python, Django, React, or similar modern frameworks)
  • Track record of owning features or systems end‑to‑end and delivering measurable user impact
  • Experience using AI developer tools (copilots, code agents, custom workflows) to ship faster — not just experiment with them
  • Ability to take a loosely defined member problem and drive it to a shipped solution without waiting for a fully specced PRD
  • Product instinct that lets you make good scope and UX tradeoffs without a designer in every conversation
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills across technical and non‑technical partners
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI agents and automation into development workflows and product features
What we offer
  • Hybrid Work Model: Based in San Francisco with a balance of in‑office and remote flexibility
  • Fresh Lunch: Provided on in‑office days
  • Commuter Support: $150 monthly reimbursement for transit expenses
  • Health & Wellness: $200 quarterly reimbursement to support your well‑being
  • Time Off: Flexible PTO plus 14 company holidays
  • Comprehensive Coverage: 100% medical, dental, and vision for employees; 75% coverage for dependents
  • Parental Leave: 16 weeks fully paid
  • Retirement & Ownership: 401k plan plus an equity package
  • Team Connection: Quarterly virtual events and an annual in‑person summit
