The Role and Why It's Important
As the Dollar Fresh Service Manager at Hy-Vee, you'll be a key leader on the floor, making sure customers are taken care of, employees are supported, and the store runs smoothly from open to close. You'll lead by example, step into any role that needs filling, and keep everything moving in the right direction throughout your shift.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly in all areas of the store and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
  • Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests
  • Serve as a key holder with opening and closing responsibilities
  • Assign employees to specific duties, follow up to ensure timely completion, and train employees in department procedures and job duties
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of employees across all areas of the store in the manager's absence, or perform the work necessary at any job level
  • Assist customers at self-checkout lanes, monitor self-checkout registers, and process refunds and department-approved returns
  • Operate the cash register to complete customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including bagging groceries as needed
  • Redeem promotional coupons, food stamps, and WIC checks; sell and redeem lottery; process rental transactions; handle credit card and in-store charges; count back change and issue receipts
  • Unload trucks, stock, replenish, and face product throughout the store; carry out to-do lists from store leadership
  • Label all backroom and storage area containers with the date received
  • Determine location of ad and promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer demand
  • Train employees on safety procedures, complete customer accident forms, and manage first reports of injury as needed
  • Ensure employee compliance with company policies, security procedures, sales practices, and record keeping requirements
  • Handle confidential information including pricing, sales reports, and wages with discretion
  • Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
  • Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed
  • You'll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Center Store Manager, and Fresh Foods Manager

Your Skills
To be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to:
  • Lead and motivate a team across all areas of a retail store
  • Solve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variables
  • Use basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Communicate clearly with customers, employees, and store leadership
  • Stay organized, manage multiple priorities, and step in wherever needed throughout a shift
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; two or more years of similar or related work experience preferred

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two or more years of similar or related work experience preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
  • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
  • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment
This is a fast-moving, hands-on role performed throughout the store. You may encounter exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
