Job description

Description Do Great Things. Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor of French in the Foreign Languages Department. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management.

The Instructor will work closely with the Discipline Chair on matters related to and for the benefit of the CALA department and its students "This is a continuous posting for the academic year and may close at any time without notice." Examples of Duties Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms Complete all legally mandated, compliance-related, and college-required training Respond to emails or other communication from students and supervisors within 24-48 hours. Maintain an active Canvas site for all courses with a minimum of the syllabus, modules, and student grades. Stay current with developments in the field of instruction Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college Assume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment Minimum Qualifications A master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in French

Preferred Qualifications: A master's degree in French; or a master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in French Work Experience: Successful experience teaching French at a university or community college is preferred. Supplemental Information Thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System Demonstrated ability to use modern instructional technology (Microsoft Office, learning management systems, e-mail, Internet, student information databases, library research databases) and experience with Internet-based instruction Competence in oral and written communication skills necessary for effective teaching Ability to make presentations to small or large audiences Ability to be organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasks Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, colleagues, and community groups Ability to establish and maintain effective, civil, and respectful communication and interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Familiarity with OSHA standards as they apply to educational environments Physical Demands: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

The physical and mental demands described as follows are representative of those that must be met by an employee in performing the essential functions of this job: Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Ability to move between classrooms, buildings, and campuses Ability to express or exchange ideas Ability to lift, at times, 10 lbs. Good eye/hand dexterity Normal Working Hours: Scheduled meeting times, course preparation, grading responsibilities, and student consultations are included as part of contracted duties.

Specific work hours will be determined based on class schedules and in coordination with the supervisor. Please note that hours are contingent upon student enrollment and instructional needs and therefore are not guaranteed.
