Student Monitor

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Extended Learning Manager
Start Date: Immediate
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday (hours vary based on program needs)

Position Summary

French International School of Oregon (FI) is seeking an energetic, responsible, and creativeFull-Time Student Monitorto join our Extended Learning team. Student Monitors supervise FI students during non-classroom times throughout the school day and after school, including lunch, recess, pickup, and Aftercare. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure a safe, engaging, and supportive environment during these "in-between" periods. Creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude are essential for success in this role. Full-Time Student Monitors also play a key role in supporting ACE (Arts and Cultural Enrichment) Week, Summer Camps, and other special programs. Participation in optional programs is offered under a separate contract and is at the discretion of the Extended Learning Manager. This is a full-time, on-campus position.


Essential Responsibilities

Student Supervision & Safety

  • Uphold safety and provide close supervision of students at all times.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, pickup, and other non-classroom periods throughout the school day.
  • Supervise students after school during the Aftercare program.
  • Provide snacks during Aftercare.
  • Escort students to Afterschool Explorer classes and designated pickup areas.
  • Provide transitional coverage for Teachers and Teacher Assistants as needed.

Program Support & Engagement

  • Collaboratively plan and facilitate fun, engaging activities for Aftercare, ACE Week, Summer Camps, and other programs as assigned.
  • Attend department meetings and in-service day trainings.
  • Help maintain safe, clean, and organized classrooms and activity spaces.
  • Support students in resolving conflicts using accountable talk and positive guidance strategies.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Establish, sustain, and encourage a positive and safe rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Communicate professionally and collaboratively with team members and supervisors.
  • Adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding student information.
  • Maintain all required trainings and compliance responsibilities per DELC standards.


Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working in childcare and/or educational settings.
  • Flexibility and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed.
  • Physical mobility sufficient to ensure the safety of children.
  • Employment contingent upon successful enrollment in the Office of Child Care Central Background Registry.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree, or equivalent.
  • Fluency in French or another language besides English.
  • Interest in international education and experience living abroad and/or working in a multilingual environment.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position includes physical activity such as walking and standing for up to 1.5 hours at a time, bending, stooping, kneeling, running, sitting on the floor, and occasionally lifting children. Student supervision occurs predominantly outdoors in all seasons; therefore, Student Monitors will often perform duties in cold and wet weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting at$19.00/hour, depending on experience (DOE).
  • 403(b) retirement plan.
