Job description

Technical Sales Engineer – Industrial & Aerospace
Test Stands

Join Our Team in Rochester Hills, MI

About the Role

As our organization expands our established industrial and automotive test stand expertise into the aviation component OEM & MRO and aerospace sectors, we are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to bridge the gap between customer vision and execution. Based out of our Detroit/Windsor engineering headquarters, you will collaborate with local engineering teams while helping support our growing aerospace customer hubs in Miami and Montreal.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background, a commercial mindset, and the ability to capture complex requirements, collaborate on conceptual proposals, and establish clear value propositions for high-stakes buyers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Technical Gathering: Lead technical discovery sessions with clients (industrial, automotive, and aerospace) to comprehensively extract, analyze, and document custom testing needs, performance requirements, and engineering specifications.
  • Concept Design & Value Proposal: Partner closely with our internal Detroit/Windsor engineering design teams to transform customer requirements into conceptual system architectures; coordinate initial CAD models, layout designs, and renderings to visually present the proposed test systems.
  • Selling Features & Customer Value Definition: Translate complex technical attributes into high-impact selling features, clearly articulating the financial and operational value, return on investment (ROI), and performance advantages to the buyer.
  • Costing & Pricing: Lead the cost estimation process by analyzing components, labor, engineering hours, and manufacturing overhead alongside engineering and procurement to build profitable, accurate pricing models and competitive commercial proposals.
  • Sales Handoff: Ensure seamless project execution by passing finalized project scopes, engineering designs, pricing models, and won proposals to the local project management and production teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or custom testing equipment design.
  • Deep understanding of industrial automation, data acquisition (DAQ) systems, mechanical assembly, and signal conditioning.
  • Familiarity with CAD software tools (to view, review, and collaborate on concept designs) and CRM platforms like Salesforce or HubSpot.
  • Exceptional ability to articulate technical value and present conceptual designs to both engineering teams and executive buyers.
Preferred Skills & Assets
  • Prior experience designing, quoting, or working with custom aviation test benches, component end-of-line testers, or high-pressure hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with aerospace testing standards and compliance requirements is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of test software architectures (e.g., LabVIEW), PLC programming, and high-precision industrial sensors.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to support client accounts in the Montreal and Miami aerospace hubs.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset due to expansion into the Montreal market.
