What is a freight partner?

Freight Partners are companies or individuals who collaborate with shippers, carriers, and logistics providers to facilitate the movement of goods through the supply chain. They often help optimize transportation routes, negotiate freight rates, and ensure timely delivery of shipments. Freight Partners play a crucial role in managing logistics operations efficiently, reducing costs, and improving customer satisfaction. Their expertise helps businesses navigate complex shipping requirements and ensures goods are transported safely and reliably.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a freight partner?

To thrive as a Freight Partner, you need a solid understanding of logistics, supply chain operations, and transportation regulations, often supported by relevant industry experience or certifications. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), freight tracking software, and basic data analysis tools is typical. Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in coordinating with carriers, shippers, and clients. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure efficient freight movement, cost savings, and high customer satisfaction in a competitive logistics environment.

What are common challenges freight partners face when coordinating shipments, and how can they be managed?

Freight Partners often encounter challenges such as tight delivery deadlines, fluctuating transportation costs, and last-minute changes to shipping schedules. Effective communication with carriers and clients, along with strong organizational skills, are essential for managing these issues. Utilizing transportation management systems (TMS) can also help streamline scheduling and provide real-time tracking. Proactively building relationships with reliable carriers and staying adaptable during unexpected disruptions can make a significant difference in overcoming these challenges.

What is the difference between Freight Partner vs Freight Coordinator?

AspectFreight Partner
Required Credentials
Experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management; industry certifications (e.g., FMCSA, CTPAT) often preferred
Work Environment
Collaborates with carriers, clients, and internal teams; often involves travel and on-site visits
Employer & Industry Usage
Used by logistics companies, freight brokers, and supply chain firms to describe partnership roles in freight operations

In summary, a Freight Partner typically acts as a collaborative entity working closely with carriers and clients to facilitate freight movement, requiring logistics experience and industry certifications. A Freight Coordinator, on the other hand, primarily manages scheduling and documentation within a company's logistics team. Both roles are essential but differ in scope and responsibilities.

How to become a freight partner?

To become a freight partner, individuals typically need to have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and reliable transportation such as a truck or van. Experience in logistics or freight handling can be beneficial, and some companies may require background checks or insurance coverage before onboarding as a freight partner.

ARE YOU READY TO HELP AN INDUSTRY LEADER DIGITALLY TRANSFORM THEIR LEGACY SOFTWARE WITH NEW MODERN TECHNOLOGY?

Our client is an industry-leading international freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and supply chain management company that has been helping businesses navigate global trade since 1915.

The company is undergoing a major digital transformation initiative focused on retiring legacy systems, rebuilding integrations, implementing modern platforms, and introducing new automation and AI-driven capabilities across the organization. We are looking for someone who naturally takes ownership, enjoys solving ambiguous problems, communicates confidently with stakeholders, and brings energy and initiative to every project. We want builders who create momentum, not people who simply wait for tickets to be assigned.

You understand how international freight forwarding works, including customers, overseas agents, carriers, customs brokerage, and operational workflows. You know how technology supports those operations and enjoy improving them.

Benefits

  • 100% Remote within the United States

  • Generous PTO program that grows with tenure
  • Professional development and continuous learning opportunities
  • Charitable donation matching program
  • Employee assistance and wellness resources
  • Long-term career growth with a stable, profitable 110+ year old company

Why This Opportunity Is Different
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future technology ecosystem of an industry leader to make meaningful investments in automation, integrations, operational efficiency, and digital transformation.

  • Join during a company-wide technology transformation
  • Help replace legacy systems and modernize core infrastructure
  • Work directly with CargoWise, Chain.io, Logixboard, customer integrations, APIs, automation, and the technology that powers international freight forwarding operations.
  • Significant exposure to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Opportunity to grow alongside a rapidly evolving technology organization
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial culture where initiative and ownership are valued
  • Stable, profitable company with more than 110 years of success
Job Description

The Business Systems Analyst serves as the bridge between business needs and technical execution. Working closely with the Solutions & Project Manager, you'll partner with operations, technology, customers, vendors, and leadership to deliver systems implementations, integrations, and digital transformation initiatives that improve international freight forwarding operations.

We're looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates confidently with stakeholders, enjoys solving problems, and thrives in a fast-moving environment where initiative is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Support the migration away from legacy systems and modernize core business platforms.
  • Lead and coordinate systems integration projects involving customers, vendors, overseas agents, carriers, and business partners.
  • Support the implementation, optimization, and ongoing enhancement of CargoWise and other freight forwarding technologies such as Chain.io, Logixboard, and related integration platforms when applicable.
  • Gather business requirements, analyze operational workflows, and translate business needs into actionable technical solutions.
  • Coordinate project timelines, testing, UAT, deployments, and successful go-live execution.
  • Partner with operations, technology, customers, vendors, and executive leadership to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, improve workflows, and drive digital transformation initiatives across the organization.
  • Support production deployments, troubleshoot implementation issues, and help ensure long long-termess of newly delivered solutions.
Qualifications
  • 3-7+ years of Business Systems Analyst or similar experience within a freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or international logistics organization

  • Hands-on experience with CargoWise strongly preferred. Experience with Chain.io, Logixboard, or similar freight forwarding platforms is also highly desirable.

  • Confident communicator with a high ownership mentality who enjoys working directly with business stakeholders, driving projects forward, and solving problems proactively.

  • Strong experience supporting software implementations, systems integrations, digital transformation initiatives, or business process improvement projects.

  • Proven experience coordinating project timelines, milestones, testing activities, and go-live execution.

  • Self-starter with strong ownership mentality and the ability to operate independently.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build, improve, and drive change rather than simply maintain existing processes.
