Job Title: Freight Dispatcher

Location: Berkeley, MO

Department: Transport

Salary: $42,000 - $55,000 (based on experience)


Position Summary:

The Freight Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating freight pickup through deliver while providing exceptional customer service and supporting profitable operations. This role works closely with customers, carriers, and senior dispatchers to ensure shipments move efficiently, service expectations are met, and carrier relationships continue to grow. The Freight Dispatcher is expected to be organized, proactive, and eager to develop their transportation knowledge while contributing to the success of the operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate FTL and LTL shipments from pickup through delivery.
  • Source carrier capacity using DAT, Truckstop, and company resources.
  • Assist in negotiating carrier rates while meeting margin goals.
  • Monitor shipments and communicate status updates to customers.
  • Build and maintain positive carrier relationships.
  • Resolve routine service issues and escalate complex situations as needed.
  • Ensure carrier compliance with company and customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate shipment documentation within McLeod.
  • Work closely with senior dispatchers and sales to support daily operations.
  • Deliver professional customer service to customers and carrier partners.

Skills & Qualifications:

·       Freight brokerage, logistics, transportation, or customer service experience preferred

·       Basic knowledge of FTL and LTL transportation.

·       Experience with McLeod Software of the ability to learn quickly.

·       Strong communication and customer service skills.

·       Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

·       Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

·       Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

·       Proficient with Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

·       Prefer to have an understanding of transportation terminology and carrier operations.

·       Prefer to have knowledge of FMCSA regulations and carrier compliance.

·       Prefer to have experience working in Transportation Management System (TMS)
