What is freight delivery?

Freight delivery refers to the process of transporting large quantities of goods, merchandise, or cargo from one location to another, typically using trucks, trains, ships, or airplanes. This service is essential for businesses that need to move products in bulk, either domestically or internationally. Freight delivery companies manage logistics, scheduling, and the safe handling of shipments to ensure timely and secure delivery. The process often involves coordination between shippers, carriers, and receivers to track and manage goods throughout the supply chain.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freight delivery driver?

To thrive as a Freight Delivery Driver, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of logistics and route planning. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and freight handling equipment is typically required. Reliability, time management, and strong customer service skills help drivers build trust with clients and manage challenging schedules. These competencies ensure timely, safe, and efficient transport of goods, which is essential for supply chain reliability.

What are some common challenges faced by freight delivery professionals, and how can they be managed?

Freight delivery professionals often encounter challenges such as tight delivery schedules, navigating traffic and route changes, and handling unexpected delays due to weather or logistics issues. Effective communication with dispatchers and clients, proactive route planning, and staying updated on regulations help manage these obstacles. Many companies provide real-time tracking technology and support teams to assist drivers, making it easier to stay on schedule and maintain customer satisfaction.

Sales Development Representative (SDR)

SimPL Freight Solutions

Raleigh, NC

$60K/yr

Full-time

Posted 21 days ago

Job description

At SimPL Freight Solutions, we simplify transportation for companies that move a lot of freight but don't want the headache of managing it all themselves. We step in as their transportation team - coordinating shipments, managing carrier relationships, tracking performance, and improving how everything runs behind the scenes.

Our customers range from large manufacturers to high-volume distributors across industries like automotive, building materials, food, and packaging. No matter the industry, the goal is the same: keep freight moving smoothly, efficiently, and without surprises.

We pride ourselves on being proactive, responsive, and accountable - anticipating issues, communicating clearly, and continuously finding better ways to deliver results.

Job Type: Full-Time
Hours: M-F, 8am-5pm
Location: On-site, Raleigh, NC

At SimPL, we believe great salespeople are developed, not born. That's why we've built a structured training program designed to give you the knowledge, coaching, and hands-on experience needed to succeed in enterprise sales. From day one, you'll work alongside experienced operations and sales leaders who are invested in your success. You'll receive ongoing mentorship, develop real-world sales skills, and learn how to build relationships with executives at some of the country's leading manufacturers and distributors.

If you're driven, coachable, and ready to grow, you'll find a team that's just as invested in your success as you are.
We pride ourselves on being proactive, responsive, and accountable - anticipating issues, communicating clearly, and continuously finding better ways to deliver results.
What the job actually is

You'll research companies that fit our ideal customer profile, call the people who run logistics and supply chain at those companies, and book discovery meetings for our sales team. This is a phone-first role you'll spend most of your day on outbound calls.

But here's the difference: no script-reading, no spray-and-pray. We train you to sound like a curious researcher, not a salesperson working an angle, because that's genuinely how we sell. You'll learn about the freight industry, learn how executives think about transportation costs, and learn a consultative approach you can build an entire career on.

What your first 90 days look like

  • Week 1: Learning the business. You'll learn how freight works, who our customers are, and why they buy before you ever pick up the phone.
  • Weeks 2–8: A structured ramp with daily coaching. Live call shadowing, role-plays, and a written benchmark for what "on track" looks like at every stage. You will always know where you stand.
  • Week 9 and beyond: Running a full, independent daily cadence with weekly 1:1 coaching. This is a real ramp, not sink-or-swim.

You'll work directly with our senior leadership and sales team throughout. They run the discovery meetings you book, which means you get immediate, honest feedback on the quality of your work, and a front-row seat to how enterprise deals get done.

What we're looking for

  • HS Diploma or GED required (College degree a plus)
  • You take feedback well, and change what you do with it
  • You don't rattle easily. Hearing "no" doesn't ruin your day
  • You're genuinely curious, you ask more questions than you answer
  • You can explain complicated things in plain language
  • You have the discipline to show up and do the work consistently, without someone standing over you
  • Experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, LinkedIn is a plus but not required

That's the whole list. If you've done customer-facing work before, great, but we care far more about who you are than what's on your resume.

Compensation & benefits

  • $50,000 base salary + uncapped monthly performance incentives ($60K on-target in year one, with top performers exceeding that).
  • Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, 15 PTO days + 9 paid holidays, and a menu of voluntary coverage options.
  • A ground-floor seat on a team we're building deliberately, with real advancement as it grows.
  • Happy hours, holiday parties, volunteer opportunities, and on-site visits to customer locations.

The hiring process

Fast and respectful of your time: a 30-minute phone screen, then a panel interview that includes a short live role-play - with a decision shortly after. We'll never leave you guessing where you stand.
