What is a freezer worker?

Freezer Workers are employees responsible for handling goods in cold storage environments, typically in warehouses, food processing plants, or distribution centers. Their primary duties include loading and unloading products, organizing inventory, and ensuring items are stored at the proper temperature to maintain quality and safety. They often operate equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks and must follow strict safety and hygiene protocols due to the low-temperature environment. Freezer Workers play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of perishable goods from the point of storage to distribution.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a freezer worker?

To thrive as a Freezer Worker, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and experience with warehouse or cold storage operations, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with pallet jacks, forklifts, inventory management systems, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is typically expected. Reliability, teamwork, and the ability to follow safety protocols are crucial soft skills for excelling in this role. These abilities ensure efficient, safe handling of goods in low-temperature environments, minimizing errors and workplace accidents.

What challenges do freezer workers face and how can they be managed?

Freezer Workers often encounter challenges such as working in extremely cold environments for extended periods and handling heavy or bulky frozen goods. To manage these challenges, employers typically provide specialized cold-weather gear and schedule regular breaks in warmer areas to prevent cold-related health issues. Staying organized and following safety protocols is crucial to avoid slips and injuries. Effective communication with team members also helps ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely.

Job description

Job Title: Warehouse Worker

Job Description

This role focuses on preparing, packing, and labeling products for shipment in a clean, temperature-controlled corporate environment. You will support daily warehouse and shipping operations by handling boxes, maintaining an organized work area, working in and out of a freezer to pick products, and entering data into the system as needed. You will also learn and use hazmat programs related to DOT regulations to help ensure that shipments comply with safety and transportation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Unload, break down, and organize boxes to support daily warehouse operations.
  • Assemble boxes and packaging materials to prepare products for shipment.
  • Accurately label all boxes and products to ensure proper identification and tracking.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
  • Enter data into the computer system as needed to update orders, inventory, and shipment information.
  • Assist the shipping department with packing products when order volume is high or the team is behind schedule.
  • Work in and out of a freezer to pick product and prepare it for shipment, following all safety and handling procedures.
  • Use computer systems to learn and apply hazmat programs, including understanding which products can and cannot be shipped under DOT regulations.
  • Follow all established procedures and guidelines for logistics, kitting, packing, and palletizing.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure orders are processed accurately and on time.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in packing, stocking, and labeling roles.
  • Hands-on experience with packing and preparing products for shipment.
  • Ability to palletize products and organize shipments efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail when labeling boxes and products.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort entering data into systems.
  • Ability to work in and out of a freezer environment and handle temperature changes safely.
  • Willingness to learn and use hazmat programs related to DOT shipping regulations.
  • Reliability in following procedures and maintaining a clean work area.
  • Capability to support logistics and kitting activities as part of daily operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in logistics or shipping environments.
  • Familiarity with kitting processes, including assembling multiple components into a single shipment.
  • Comfort working in a corporate setting rather than a traditional warehouse environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, close-knit shipping area.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks during the day.
  • Good communication skills for collaborating with shipping and office staff.

Why Work Here?

You will work in a clean, well-organized, and temperature-controlled facility that emphasizes safety, quality, and compliance. The environment supports learning and growth, offering opportunities to expand your skills in logistics, hazmat regulations, and computer-based systems. You will be part of a professional, corporate setting with a small, collaborative shipping team, where your contributions directly support efficient operations and reliable customer deliveries.

Work Environment

The role is based in a pharmaceutical-related, corporate environment that is super clean and temperature controlled. The shipping area is located directly behind the offices, is relatively small, and is designed for efficient, detail-oriented work rather than traditional warehouse or forklift operations. You will work Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., spending time both at a workstation and in a freezer area while picking and preparing products for shipment.
