Job Overview: A Fleet Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, ranging from light to heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, skid loaders, toolcats, and grapple trucks. Fleet mechanics are responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining this specialized equipment to support the tree service operations. The position requires a strong mechanical background, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and equipment to ensure they are in optimal working condition. This includes checking engine performance, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other components.
  • Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in trucks and equipment using various diagnostic tools and equipment. Identify the root cause of problems and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and adhere to a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to reduce the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment.
  • Repair and Replacement: Conduct repairs on faulty parts and components or recommend replacements when necessary. Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of replacement parts.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle and equipment.   • Upgrading Skills: Mechanics must stay updated on the latest advancements in automotive or equipment technology. They may attend workshops, and seminars, or undergo manufacturer-specific training to enhance their skills and knowledge. Mechanics may be needed to assist in enhancing policies, procedures, and best practices by utilizing their knowledge, experience, and mechanical understanding to upgrade the skills of those operating the equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle equipment repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Needs to be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
  • Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information in English.
  • Must be able to communicate with others and represent Carr’s Tree Service in a professional manner.
  • Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Drive and operate vehicles and equipment within DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer regulations.
