Job description

Location: Freeport, TX
Freeport LNG is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer who will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of industrial electrical systems in an LNG facility. The successful candidate will work independently, using good judgement for consulting supervisors and mentors. This position includes the development and maintenance of electrical engineering processes and standards for the facility.
Location / Travel Information:
This position is based at the LNG Facility, with some travel to local off-site locations as required. The position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times to perform the essential functions of the job. Out-of-town travel is less than 10%.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution within an industrial facility from 480V to 138kV
  • Strong knowledge of large synchronous machines
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise and apply advanced technical knowledge to identify electrical hazards, evaluate related risks, and assist in the development of effective risk control solutions at the company's operated assets
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise during the development and/or revision of electrical-related standards, procedures, guidelines, and plans as required to meet industry standards or regulatory requirements
  • Provide technical expertise for electrical incident investigations
  • Develop and analyze electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, and arc flash
  • Develop electrical safe operating and engineering practices at company assets that fully incorporate aspects of company electrical safety standards and NFPA 70E
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI) with an emphasis on monitoring and analysis for electrical systems for increased efficiency and reduced downtime between scheduled PMs and planned outages
  • Develop complex electrical scope of work packages for the execution of electrical projects and/or multi-discipline projects
  • Perform and lead root cause analysis and develop cross-functional bad actor programs
  • Support maintenance with PM activities
  • Develop and/or review technical reports
  • Support timely and accurate responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) and Engineering Service Requests (ESRs)
  • Provide technical and commercial evaluations of engineering proposals and contracts
  • Develop multidisciplinary Management of Change packages (MOCs) to ensure quality documentation and efficient approval and execution
  • Develop condition-based monitoring programs for electrical assets
  • Maintain interfaces with regulators and technical institutions
  • Develop and manage complex contracting strategies and partnerships
  • Develop and maintain internal design standards, design specifications, and provide input to approved vendor lists
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and entry-level engineers
