Digital Managing Editor, KUVO & THE DROP

Denver, CO

Rocky Mountain Public Media, Inc. (RMPM) is the parent company of Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO Jazz, and The Drop. Over a million Coloradans turn to Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO Jazz, and The Drop to discover provocative and inspiring local, national, and international programming; find diverse viewpoints; score front row center seats to world-class performances; and experience lifelong learning opportunities every month.

Rocky Mountain Public Media is looking for an experienced managing editor who embraces our editorial vision of serving a Colorado where everyone feels seen and heard. This person will co-develop and extend the editorial vision of the radio teams to our suite of digital platforms: assigning and editing all articles, managing the brands' digital editorial staff, developing an editorial calendar and maintaining publication deadlines. This role helps ensure KUVO and THE DROP's digital storytelling reflects and serves diverse Colorado communities through inclusive, audience-centered editorial practices.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Website Editorial Management:

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, editorial direction, workflow prioritization, and performance feedback for assigned digital editorial staff, including social and web content producers.
  • Line edit and copy edit all editorial content, including articles, social media posts and newsletters.
  • Develop editorial strategy and assign stories for kuvo.org, thedrop1047.org, and our associated YouTube channels - featuring performances, interviews, profiles and adaptations of audio content.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar while creating project plans that include tasks, milestones, deadlines and timelines.
  • Coach on-air hosts and producers to develop and write original content. Identify relevant content from freelancers and other content partners.
  • Help steward KUVO & THE DROP's visual look and voice across digital platforms.
  • Manage special digital projects and editorial collaborations internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Transformation Team on website updates.
  • Implement SEO best practices to improve website visibility and search engine rankings.
  • Ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all platforms.
  • Optimize web content for mobile responsiveness and accessibility.
  • Write captivating headlines, captions, original stories or short posts as needed.

Social Media:

  • Manage the social media producer, collaborating with both the producer and brand leadership on an overall strategy and defining the voice for those channels.
  • Review, edit and approve all social content before it is published.
  • Develop strategies to grow our presence to additional platforms (eg. TikTok, Reddit, etc.)

Newsletter Creation:

  • Develop and shape the editorial voice of our newsletters, with innovation and strategy for growing and engaging our audience.
  • Line edit newsletter and email content from KUVO & THE DROP, ensuring overall accuracy and maintaining AP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with our Email and Product Marketing Operations Lead to track and analyze email performance metrics to implement improved content and delivery strategies.

Minimum Qualifications of Position

  • 5 years of related experience
  • BA in journalism or equivalent combination of professional experience and demonstrated expertise
  • Experience covering or writing about music.
  • Exceptional ability in copywriting and editing
  • Proficient in content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and newsletter platforms (e.g., Iterable).
  • Proven experience in web administration, content management, and newsletter creation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative mindset with a keen eye for design and user experience.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS for basic website customization with the ability to collaborate effectively with digital product and technology teams on web publishing functionality and user experience improvements.
  • Understanding of AP Editing Standards.
