The Manual Machinist (lathe) is responsible for operating manual lathes, press brakes, and rolling equipment to fabricate and modify metal components to precise specifications. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, values quality work, and can work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes to machine parts to required tolerances
  • Operate press brake to bend, form, and shape metal components
  • Use plate rolls/rollers to form cylindrical or curved parts
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
  • Measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools
  • Perform basic machine maintenance and ensure equipment is in safe working condition
  • Adjust machine settings to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Deburr, grind, and finish parts as needed
  • Light assembly work for industrial machines
  • Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 2+ years of experience operating manual machining equipment (lathe required)
  • years of hands-on mechanical or assembly experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes
  • Experience with precision measuring tools
  • Experience with press brake and/or rolling equipment preferred
  • Proficiency with wrenches, prybars, high-pressure cleaning equipment, power tools, overhead cranes, and fork trucks
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and prints
  • Physically able to work in an industrial shop environment, including lifting and moving heavy parts (with or without assistance)
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to take accurate measurements and complete records
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with a commitment to safety
