What is a freelance web developer?

A freelance web developer is an independent professional who designs, builds, and maintains websites for clients on a project or contract basis, rather than working as a full-time employee for a single company. They often work with a range of clients, including businesses, organizations, and individuals, offering services such as website creation, updates, troubleshooting, and optimization. Freelance web developers typically manage their own schedules, find their own clients, and may specialize in areas like front-end, back-end, or full-stack development. They use a variety of programming languages and tools depending on the requirements of each project. This career offers flexibility, but also requires self-motivation and strong communication skills to manage client relationships effectively.

What does a freelance web developer do?

Freelance web developers create eye-catching and user-friendly websites to generate web traffic and promote their clients' products and services. Unlike staff web developers, freelance web developers are independent contractors who may work for an individual or business on a short- or long-term basis. As a freelance web developer, you determine your target audience based on your client's customer base and design a website to attract new customers and keep current customers interested. You may also meet with your client to ensure you understand their expectations and wants for their website. When developing a design, you may collaborate with a team to create a new site or find ways to improve an existing one. Functionality and aesthetic appeal are your two primary goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance web developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Web Developer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and often frameworks such as React or Vue, supported by a solid portfolio of completed projects. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, content management systems (e.g., WordPress), and basic SEO or web analytics tools is typically expected. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and clear client communication are crucial soft skills for managing multiple projects and building client relationships. These qualities are essential for delivering high-quality work independently, meeting client expectations, and sustaining a successful freelance business.

How do freelance web developers typically manage client communication and project expectations?

Freelance web developers often handle all aspects of client communication themselves, from initial consultations to project delivery and support. Effective communication is crucial for understanding client goals, setting clear timelines, and managing expectations regarding deliverables and revisions. Many freelancers use project management tools, regular progress updates, and detailed contracts to ensure both parties are aligned throughout the process. This proactive approach helps prevent misunderstandings and builds strong client relationships, which are essential for repeat business and referrals.

Job description

Who We Are: Front Office Transformation Experts
Bluprintx (BPX) is a global, AI-powered consultancy built to design and deliver the intelligent front office for CMO and CRO executives. We are private equity-backed and scaling fast, with 300 active customers across 10 countries and more than 1,750 implementations. We connect people, technology, and AI to turn fragmentation into performance, partnering with global leaders to modernize how marketing, CRM, content, AI & Data connect. At BPX, we hire operators and specialists who thrive at the intersection of commercial strategy and technical execution.
What We Do: Cutting Complexity Across the Front Office
We help the world's most ambitious companies, including Uber Eats, BNY, and Xerox, untangle the operational complexity that slows enterprise growth. As a Gold Adobe Solution Partner and Salesforce Summit Partner, we deliver strategy and implementation across the full front office. Our proprietary methodology builds sustainable enabled ecosystems that maximize ROI and accelerate speed to market. By embedding AI into commercial workflows, we help clients move faster and stay ahead.
The Role
As a Marketo Consultant (Contractor), you will serve as the lead practitioner on high-value client engagements across the EMEA or North American regions. This is a hands-on, execution-focused, and client-facing remote role where you will own the client relationship, map out roadmaps, and manage platform delivery from end to end. You will work closely with our internal project managers and engineering teams during standard business hours to deliver top-tier Marketo implementations, optimize marketing automation setups, and build robust integrations-particularly with Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Your objective will be to untangle operational complexity and ensure our enterprise clients achieve rapid, scalable time-to-value without needing hand-holding.
Responsibilities
  • End-to-End Implementation: Lead and support the full deployment of Adobe Marketo Engage for enterprise customers, customizing environments to meet specific business requirements.
  • CRM Integration: Design, implement, and troubleshoot robust data flows and integrations between Marketo and Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Managed Services Support: Oversee ongoing operations including campaign execution, program optimization, lead lifecycle management, platform administration, and data quality assurance.
  • Client Advisory: Directly manage client relationships, lead weekly syncs, facilitate stakeholder workshops, and translate technical configurations into clear strategic roadmaps.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal Bluprintx Solution Architects and Project Managers to keep delivery timelines strictly on track.
  • Technical Documentation: Produce clear, comprehensive documentation covering implementation processes, technical configurations, and workflow architectures.

Requirements
  • Certification: Active Adobe Certified Professional/Expert in Marketo Engage (Mandatory).
  • Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience driving enterprise Marketo implementations and delivering ongoing managed services.
  • Integration Expertise: Proven track record of configuring and troubleshooting Marketo integrations with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Client Management: Demonstrable experience leading client relationships, managing stakeholders, and acting as an autonomous consultant.
  • Availability: Ability to operate reliably during standard regional business hours (EMEA or North America).
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with a sharp eye for detail (e.g., catching misaligned UTMs before deployment).

Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC).
  • Prior experience working within a fast-paced agency or MarTech consultancy model.
  • Understanding of APIs, web services, and middleware integration tools.

Why this opportunity is unique
This role offers direct client ownership from day one alongside a highly flexible contractor arrangement, allowing experienced freelancers to rapidly scale their network and work on diverse, enterprise-level integration projects.
Anticipated Salary Range:
The anticipated pay range for this role is $90 to $130 per hour.
