What is freelance video annotation?

Freelance video annotation involves labeling or tagging objects, actions, or events in video footage to create datasets used for training artificial intelligence and machine learning models. Freelancers in this field watch video clips and use specialized software to highlight frames, draw bounding boxes, or assign descriptive tags to specific elements. This work is crucial for developing technologies like self-driving cars, security systems, and video analysis tools. Freelance video annotation jobs often offer flexible hours and can be done remotely, making them popular among those seeking flexible work opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance video annotation specialist?

To thrive as a Freelance Video Annotation Specialist, you need attention to detail, strong visual analysis skills, and familiarity with data labeling concepts, often requiring basic computer proficiency and sometimes a relevant educational background. Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Graphic Designer Specialist - Freelance AI Trainer Project based in Netherlands.

This freelance opportunity is designed for an experienced graphic designer who wants to help shape the next generation of AI-powered creative tools. You will apply your expertise in visual communication, composition, typography, color, and creative direction to evaluate AI-generated design content. Your feedback will help models better understand professional design principles across digital and print formats. The role combines hands-on design expertise with AI evaluation, annotation, and quality assessment. You'll work remotely and collaborate with a team focused on improving model outputs, prompts, and evaluation standards. It is an opportunity to turn your professional design judgment into high-quality training data with global impact.

Accountabilities
  • Analyze and evaluate AI-generated graphics against professional standards for composition, layout, hierarchy, typography, color, usability, and overall visual quality.
  • Identify and annotate design errors, inconsistencies, and areas where AI-generated content fails to follow established design principles.
  • Assess visual reasoning and provide clear, actionable expert feedback to improve the quality and accuracy of AI-generated designs.
  • Review creative outputs across both print and digital formats, considering context, audience, usability, and visual communication objectives.
  • Collaborate with project teams to refine prompts, evaluation methodologies, quality criteria, and design guidelines used for AI training.
  • Apply strong creative judgment to distinguish effective design solutions from technically correct but visually weak or inappropriate outputs.
  • Contribute professional insights that help AI systems better understand layout principles, color systems, visual hierarchy, and creative decision-making.
Requirements
  • Professional experience in graphic design with strong expertise in visual communication, layout design, color theory, typography, and creative concept development.
  • Strong proficiency with industry-standard design software, particularly Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Experience evaluating visual compositions with a highly developed eye for aesthetics, detail, consistency, and usability.
  • Ability to clearly articulate why a design works or does not work and translate creative judgment into precise written feedback.
  • Strong understanding of both digital and print design principles and workflows.
  • Experience with Adobe XD or Figma for UI/UX-related design is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with After Effects or Premiere Pro and motion graphics is a plus.
  • Additional experience in social media content creation, video editing, illustration, or photography is beneficial.
  • Excellent written communication, independent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work accurately on repetitive evaluation tasks.
  • Comfortable working with AI tools and adapting professional design expertise to model evaluation and training workflows.
  • Mid-senior level design experience and the ability to work independently in a fully remote freelance environment.
  • Ability to provide your own secure computer and reliable, high-speed internet connection.
Benefits
  • Flexible freelance, contract-based opportunity with fully remote work.
  • Opportunity to apply professional graphic design expertise to the development of next-generation AI systems.
  • Work directly on projects involving advanced language and vision models and AI-generated visual content.
  • Hourly compensation ranging from $6 to $65 USD, depending on experience, expertise, and geographic location.
  • Flexible opportunity suited to professionals seeking project-based remote work.
  • Exposure to emerging AI evaluation, training, and creative technology workflows.
  • No requirement to relocate or work from a physical office.
  • Please note that this is a contractor position; company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and paid time off are not provided.
  • Contractors are responsible for supplying their own secure computer and high-speed internet.
