Our client is seeking a creative and trend-driven
Freelance Women’s Activewear Technical Designer to develop innovative activewear collections that align with their brand vision and target customers. The ideal candidate has strong experience in women's/men's activewear design, an understanding of stretch fabrics, fits, fabric development, and garment construction, and the ability to take concepts from inspiration to production-ready technical packages.
Salary/Hourly Rate
$40/hr - $45/hr
Position Overview
The Freelance Women’s Activewear Technical Designer partners with Design, Product Development, and Production teams to ensure women's activewear garments meet fit, construction, quality, and performance standards from concept through production.
Responsibilities Of The Freelance Women’s Activewear Technical Designer
- Create and maintain detailed technical packages (tech packs) with garment specifications, construction details, measurements, and grading.
- Develop and update measurement specifications (specs) and Points of Measure (POMs).
- Conduct garment fit sessions on live models and/or dress forms.
- Evaluate fit, balance, comfort, mobility, and overall garment performance.
- Communicate fit corrections and construction comments to overseas and domestic factories.
- Review prototypes, salesman samples, pre-production samples (PPS), and TOP (Top of Production) samples.
- Ensure consistency in fit across product categories and seasonal collections.
- Collaborate with Design to preserve aesthetic intent while improving fit and manufacturability.
- Partner with Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, and Production teams to meet development calendars.
Required Experience/Skills for the Freelance Women’s Activewear Technical Designer:
- Strong understanding of women's apparel fit and patternmaking.
- Expertise in knit performance fabrics, stretch materials, compression garments, and seamless construction.
- Knowledge of garment construction, grading, sewing methods, and manufacturing processes.
- 4 to 7 years of experience as a Technical Designer.
- Experience writing detailed fit comments for factories.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Freelance Women’s Activewear Technical Designer:
- Women’s Technical Designer Activewear experience.
- Able to prepare full technical packages.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
