Freelance Solids Control Operator information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance solids control operator?

To thrive as a Freelance Solids Control Operator, you need a solid understanding of drilling fluid systems, mechanical aptitude, and relevant experience in oilfield operations. Familiarity with solids control equipment such as centrifuges, shakers, desanders, and knowledge of safety protocols are crucial, and certifications like H2S Alive or OSHA may be required. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication are vital soft skills for working on diverse rigs and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. These competencies ensure efficient solids removal, promote environmental compliance, and support safe, productive drilling operations.

What is a freelance solids control operator?

Freelance Solids Control Operators are independent contractors who specialize in managing and maintaining solids control equipment on drilling sites. Their primary role is to remove solid particles from drilling fluids, ensuring the fluids can be reused and the drilling operation runs efficiently. They are hired on a project or temporary basis, often traveling to various drilling locations as needed. These professionals must have expertise in handling specialized equipment and a strong understanding of drilling processes to ensure safety and compliance on site.

What are the typical challenges a freelance solids control operator faces when working on different drilling sites?

Freelance Solids Control Operators often encounter challenges such as adapting to varying equipment brands and site-specific procedures, as each drilling project may use different systems and technologies. They must quickly assess site conditions, understand local safety protocols, and communicate effectively with new teams to ensure efficient solids control and waste management. Additionally, freelancers need to be highly self-reliant, as they are responsible for their own scheduling, travel, and maintaining up-to-date certifications. Building strong relationships with drilling crews and staying current on industry best practices can help overcome these challenges and lead to more consistent work opportunities.

What is the difference between Freelance Solids Control Operator vs Drilling Rig Floorhand?

Job description

The Role

Helogen is hiring a Founding Marketing Lead to build and own our marketing function. This is a rare opportunity to help position Helogen as one of the defining companies of the space industrialization era. You’ll be joining a small team of high‑caliber engineers, scientists, builders, and operators united by the belief that the microgravity environment of space represents one of the greatest untapped opportunities in the history of medicine and industry. We value execution over perfection, clarity over complexity, and ownership over handholding. We move quickly, learn fast, and adapt as the company evolves.

This is a role for an entrepreneurial generalist who brings creative ambition without preciousness, strong opinions without ego, and has a deep respect for the technical and commercial complexity of what we’re building. As the founding member of Helogen’s marketing team, your work will shape not just how Helogen is perceived, but what it becomes. The Founding Marketing Lead will report to the Chief Commercial Officer.

Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve Helogen's core company narrative; translate complex concepts across space systems, biotechnology, automation, and orbital manufacturing into a clear and compelling story for customers, investors, partners, media, and talent
  • Partner with Commercial team to create collateral, including customer decks, mission briefs, vertical narratives, capability overviews, case studies, conference materials, and partner-facing assets
  • Lead thought‑leadership content development and run the marketing and content distribution engine that supports our next stage of growth
  • Manage external PR, creative, and design partners
  • Develop our event and market presence strategy
  • Develop marketing processes that permeates across all functions of the company
  • Measure and analyze insights to improve how Helogen shows up in the world
Requirements
  • You have 5+ years of professional experience in marketing, branding, communications, content, growth, product marketing, or a related function, preferably within an early‑stage or high‑growth startup
  • Experience building marketing programs in environments where resources are limited, priorities shift quickly, and systems are being created from scratch
  • You’re equally comfortable setting strategy and executing the work
  • Strong visual and creative instincts; you recognize how great design looks and can provide useful, actionable creative direction and feedback
  • You understand how to build a category, support fundraising efforts, create market momentum, and make complex technology legible to diverse audiences
  • Comfort partnering directly with founders and executives and turning raw ideas into polished public‑facing content
  • Experience managing external agencies or freelancers across PR, design, creative, content, or production
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented; you can manage competing deadlines, launches, agencies, content calendars, and internal stakeholders simultaneously
  • Resourceful and self‑directed with high ownership, urgency, and accountability
Preferred Qualifications
  • BA/BS/MBA in a relevant field
  • Experience in high‑growth startups in sectors such as consumer health, frontier tech, space, climate, defense tech, robotics, AI, hardware, deep tech, or advanced manufacturing is strongly preferred
  • You’ve previously worked in a company like WHOOP, Oura, Levels, Eight Sleep, Ramp, Mercury, Anduril, Hadrian, Axiom, Vast, Relativity, Arc, Astranis, Ginkgo, Benchling, or another high‑growth company with a strong narrative, technical product, and ambitious market vision
  • An exceptional writer and storyteller, you can distill complex technical concepts into clear, compelling language that makes a company, product, or category feel important, differentiated, and timely
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $125,000‑135,000 with equity offered. Ideal candidates are based in Austin, TX, New York, NY, or San Francisco, CA.

Benefits
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Health, dental, vision and life insurance
  • 401(k) program
  • Membership to OneMedical
  • Be part of creating something new that will change the world
Export Control Requirements

Due to the nature of the work performed, applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined by U.S. export control regulations or otherwise eligible to access export‑controlled information and technology. U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) (i.e., individual admitted to the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum in the U.S.)
