Job description

As a BCN Hospice Team member, you will be a part of a team providing care and support to patients and their families who no longer receive treatments to cure their terminal illness but instead choose care to improve their comfort and quality of life. Our service allows our team members to focus on one patient at a time providing care where the patient calls home. While this often is a house or apartment, we also provide care at nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospitals. If a patient's care needs are too complicated for home care or require a higher level of attention from nurses and other experts, we can provide care at one of our Hospice Care Centers.
Schedule: PRN (as needed)
Position Summary:
The RN provides skilled professional nursing care to the patient/family/caregiver as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with regulations as established by the State Board of Registered Nursing, the patient, and the policies of Bluegrass Care Navigators. This position reports to the Executive Director and/or Clinical Nursing Officer.
Requirements:
  • Is a graduate of an accredited school of professional (registered) nursing.
  • Is currently licensed as an RN through the State Board of Nursing.
  • At least one-year general nursing experience is preferred with current hospice, home health, medical, surgical or critical care experience. Experience with providing good pain management, IV skills preferred. New nursing graduates will be considered along with other life experiences and interest in working in hospice field.
  • Skilled in nursing practice, able to cope with family emotional stress and tolerant of individual lifestyles.
  • Complies with accepted professional standards and principles.
  • Understands hospice philosophy, principles of death/dying.
  • Employees will be expected to comply with Bluegrass Care Navigators Employee Health, infectious disease, and vaccination policies.
  • Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  • Have satisfactory references from nursing school, previous (or current) employers and/or professional peers.
  • Have excellent observation, good nursing judgment and communication skills. Ability to provide good written documentation in a timely manner.
  • Is self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation and has ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • This position does not require the team member to maintain a valid driver's license or to drive a motor vehicle as a part of their regular assigned duties. However, if the team member does elect to drive a motor vehicle while in the performance of their job duties, they must maintain a valid driver's license in the state in which they reside, and they must comply with state insurance laws governing liability, property damage, and bodily injury.
