Registered Nurse (RN) – Rural Health Clinic (PRN)

Department: Rural Health Clinic
Status: PRN (As Needed)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Manager – Clinic
Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado


Position Summary

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Rural Health Clinic team on a PRN basis.

The Clinic RN collaborates with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical assistants, and other support staff to coordinate and deliver patient-centered care in an outpatient clinic setting. This role supports a team-based care model and helps guide daily clinical workflows to ensure patients receive high-quality, efficient care.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can adapt quickly in a busy clinical environment while delivering safe, compassionate nursing care.


Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Support
  • Provide direct patient care within the RN scope of practice in an outpatient clinic setting
  • Perform patient assessments, vital signs, and patient intake
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments
  • Administer medications, injections, and immunizations as ordered
  • Perform clinic-based procedures including dressing changes, EKGs, nebulizer treatments, and suture or staple removal
Care Coordination & Triage
  • Triage patient phone calls and portal messages using established protocols
  • Coordinate care between providers, clinic staff, and patients
  • Assist with medication refills and prior authorizations following clinic protocols
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up care and appointment scheduling
Patient Education & Support
  • Provide education to patients and families regarding conditions, medications, and treatment plans
  • Promote preventative health and wellness education
  • Reinforce provider instructions and care plans
Documentation & Quality Compliance
  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record
  • Assist with collection of quality and performance data
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and clinic protocols
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Team Collaboration
  • Support and mentor clinical support staff including LPNs and Medical Assistants
  • Assist with training new clinical staff members
  • Work collaboratively with the clinic team to improve patient experience and clinic operations

QualificationsEducation
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program
  • BSN preferred but not required
Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical nursing experience
  • Outpatient clinic or physician office experience preferred
  • CLIA waived laboratory testing experience preferred
  • Immunization program experience preferred
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current Colorado RN license in good standing
  • Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers
Skills
  • Strong clinical assessment and triage skills
  • Excellent communication and patient education abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems and basic computer programs

Work Environment
  • Outpatient clinic setting with frequent patient interaction
  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and medical equipment
  • Requires standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients during procedures
  • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Compensation Range: $31.96 - $49.41 hourly, based on 0-22 years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.  
  • Shift Differential Pay: 
    • PRN Differential: PRN employees in this position receive a PRN Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour. 
  • Benefits: Benefits include sick leave and retirement plan with employer contribution.  
  • Job Type: PRN 
  • Shift Type: Day shift, weekdays.
