Job description

Litigation Attorney (5–9 Years Experience)

Run your own cases—with autonomy, support, and a steady pipeline of work.

Secrest Wardle, a Michigan-based firm with over 100 years of history and recognized in 2026 among Best Law Firms (as ranked by Best Lawyers), is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our practice.

This role is designed for attorneys who are comfortable managing files independently while working within a collaborative team of experienced trial lawyers. You’ll take ownership of an active caseload while having access to guidance when it matters.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage a full caseload from intake through resolution, including trial preparation where applicable
  • Develop and execute litigation strategy across a variety of defense matters in diverse practice areas
  • Draft and argue substantive motions
  • Take and defend depositions independently
  • Handle court appearances, mediations, and negotiations
  • Evaluate risk, exposure, and case value
  • Communicate directly with clients, adjusters, and opposing counsel

What This Role Requires

  • 5–9 years of litigation experience
  • Background in insurance defense strongly preferred
  • Ability to independently manage files in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedure and litigation strategy
  • Experience with Michigan No-Fault/PIP is a plus
  • Familiarity with billing practices and file management

What You Won’t Find Here

  • Micromanagement or unnecessary layers of approval
  • Being limited to a narrow slice of work
  • Waiting years for meaningful responsibility

What You Will Find

  • A consistent flow of litigation work
  • Autonomy in managing your files, with support when you need it
  • Experienced trial attorneys available for collaboration
  • Strong support staff to keep you focused on legal work
  • A practical, team-oriented environment
  • Hybrid flexibility after onboarding
  • A Troy office in a highly accessible, amenity-rich area

Why Join Secrest Wardle?

We offer the stability of a long-established firm, the credibility of national recognition, and the day-to-day environment attorneys are actually looking for: autonomy, support, and the ability to move cases forward efficiently.

If you’re looking to join a supportive, collaborative environment where you can take real ownership of your files without sacrificing support, we’d love to talk with you. Apply today – we move quickly with qualified candidates.
