Job description

Battelle delivers when others can't. We conduct research and development, manage national laboratories, design and manufacture products and deliver critical services for our clients-whether they are a multi-national corporation, a small start-up or a government agency.
We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.
Job Summary
Battelle is seeking a RF Test Engineerto support the Ravenstar program, focusing on the planning, execution, and analysis of laboratory and field testing for advanced RF, electronic warfare (EW), and communications systems. The Test Engineer will work collaboratively with systems engineers, RF architects, and program stakeholders to ensure Ravenstar systems meet technical, operational, safety, and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong test engineering fundamentals, experience testing complex RF-based systems, and the ability to translate system requirements into defensible, repeatable test approaches across the system lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Test Planning & Execution
  • Define, document, and execute automated and manual test plans, procedures, and scripts to validate Ravenstar RF, EW, and communications systems against system and customer requirements.
  • Develop and refine system-level and subsystem-level test strategies informed by operational use cases, performance requirements, and integration constraints.
  • Prepare test setups, fixtures, instrumentation, and support equipment to ensure accurate, repeatable, and defensible data collection in laboratory and field environments.
  • Execute test activities in accordance with approved test plans, including real-time monitoring of system performance and identification of anomalies.

Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to evaluate system performance, technical maturity, and integration readiness.
  • Document test results and prepare technical reports, briefs, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

Systems, RF, and Integration Support
  • Support integration and testing of RF-based EW and communications systems, working closely with RF systems engineers and architects.
  • Contribute to modeling, simulation, and analytical efforts used to inform test design and interpret results.
  • Ensure all test activities comply with applicable safety, security, and industry or defense standards.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 2+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans, procedures, and reports for complex systems.
  • Experience testing RF, EW, or communications systems in laboratory and/or field environments.
  • Radar or electronic warfare (EW) subsystem design and/or test experience, with the ability to translate subsystem performance requirements into executable test approaches.
  • Hands-on experience working in an anechoic chamber, including setup, execution, and debugging of custom RF or electronic hardware.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB or similar) used to support test planning or data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data and identify system-level issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
