What We Are Looking For:
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can level up how our team uses AI to build, scale, and maintain modern software systems, with a strong emphasis on automation frameworks and quality engineering. This person will bring strong hands-on experience with AI-enabled tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, or similar) and apply them across software development, test design, failure analysis, and automation strategy. You should be comfortable operating independently, creating repeatable processes, and driving adoption across the team, helping others understand not just the tools, but how to use them effectively to improve quality, speed, and coverage. This is a high-impact role for someone who combines deep QA fundamentals with a forward-thinking, AI-first mindset.
This position is in Richmond, VA and is onsite Monday through Thursday and work from home Friday.
Responsibilities
  • Ensures that products conform to business requirements/company policies, software quality standards, and established procedures
  • Confirms that testable systems are specified, designed and implemented
  • Ensures testing practices and documentation support SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) compliance requirements
  • Designs, documents, and implements testing procedures and techniques aligned with departmental SQA Methodology, evaluating software and business risk, accuracy, completeness, internal integrity, testability, and overall quality across business systems and SDLC processes
  • Creates and maintains SQA deliverables including test plans, test cases, test data, project test progress and release reports, application turnover documents and test schedules
  • Recommends and assists in corrective actions taken at all stages of product life cycle
  • Submits and tracks issues throughout the SDLC, including production (maintenance) and release issues, in their respective systems
  • Develops functional automated tests and curates automated regression test suites
  • Supports release management by validating release readiness and coordinating go/no-go testing decisions
  • Leverages agentic engineering and AI-assisted tools to accelerate test design, automation, and defect triage across the SDLC

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related field, from an accredited, in-person, not for profit university or college
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers
  • Experience with agentic engineering and AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate test automation and quality workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI copilots or agentic workflows to test case generation, code review, and root-cause analysis
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and relational database design
  • Proficient in writing T-SQL queries
  • Experience testing mission-critical relational database applications, and web-based enterprise systems
  • Comfortable writing software to implement functional automated tests using well known design patterns
  • A good understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of Postman for API testing and debugging
  • An understanding of quality assurance testing methodologies, deliverables, processes, strategies, metrics, techniques and the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Demonstrated ability to create functional/integration API layer tests
  • Comfortable creating and delivering automated tests in an Agile environment
  • Skilled in reporting, regressing, and reproducing software problems.
  • Hands-on with testing/debugging tools including Chrome Debugger, Datadog, and Log Rocket
  • Strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners)

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years industry experience as a software quality assurance test engineer
  • 5+ years of experience with functional testing either manually or via automation tools
  • Hands on experience in automation and good understanding of automation testing strategies and tools
  • Proficient in designing and implementing automated tests using Playwright or similar automated testing framework
  • Skilled at integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps Pipelines, Jenkins)
  • Background in performance/load testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or Gatling
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing standards (WCAG, Section 508)
  • Baseline familiarity with OWASP Top 10 and secure testing practices
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and Azure DevOps or GitHub (TFS a plus).
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and be proactive
  • ISTQB or equivalent QA certification a plus

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a
variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
Base Compensation: $130,000 - $170,000 Annually
