About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Electronics and Radio Frequency (RF) Communications Tech in our Communications Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
• Evaluating, maintaining, repairing, and optimizing mobile radio, portable radio, vehicular repeater, lighting, siren, speed-determining, in-vehicle camera, mobile data, and other communications equipment.
• Designing, fabricating, and documenting approved equipment modifications or subassemblies for new equipment installations.
• Providing support to maintain various Public Safety electronic equipment for 22 State Agencies including the Virginia State Police.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
• Digital and analog electronics.
• Radio frequency (VHF, UHF, 700MHz, 800MHz) operational theory.
• Computers and peripheral equipment.
Skills in:
• Using computers and Microsoft Office applications.
• Related radio programming software (Motorola, Harris, EF Johnson, Kenwood).
• Hand and power tools;
• Soldering (Surface Mounted technology and Lead-Free soldering).
Ability to:
• Interpret electronic schematic drawings.
• Evaluate, install, maintain, and repair public safety and communication equipment.
• Conduct training and assist field technician personnel.
• Communicate effectively in English orally and in writing with staff and Agency officials.
• Work independently and as a member of a team.
• Possession of a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operators License or recognized equivalent within six months of employment required.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
• Formal military or civilian trade school preferred.
• Experience with various public safety equipment including two-way mobile/portable communications equipment (transmitters, receivers, transceivers, digital vehicle repeaters), electronic sirens, electronic emergency lighting, speed-detection devices preferred.
