About the Role

We are seeking experienced and creative educators to develop high-quality lesson plans for Grades 1–12 across a range of subject areas, including Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Business, Humanities, The Arts, Core French, Math, Technology, French Immersion, and Physical Education. This is a freelance, remote opportunity ideal for teachers or curriculum developers with a strong understanding of age-appropriate instruction, inclusive pedagogy, and engaging classroom practices.

Key Accountabilities
  • Design clear, structured, and engaging student focused lesson plans and supporting teacher materials aligned with curriculum expectations
  • Incorporate diverse teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and varied assessment methods
  • Develop content that supports inclusive, accessible, and student-centered learning environments
  • Create lessons that meaningfully connect to students’ lived experiences and the world around them
  • Integrate principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Culturally Relevant and Responsive Pedagogy (CRRP) in lessons
  • Work efficiently within digital platforms to support agile, rapid content development

Requirements

  • Background in K-12 education (teaching preferred)
  • Experience developing lesson plans for K–12 students or a specific division – primary, junior, intermediate, high school
  • Demonstrated understanding of UDL and CRRP frameworks
  • Strong writing, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to design relevant, real-world learning experiences that resonate with diverse learners
  • Comfort working in collaborative digital environments with quick turnaround times
  • Familiarity with provincial or national curriculum standards is an asset

Benefits

All freelance work at Nelson is carried out on a work-for-hire basis, with freelancers submitting invoices for work on agreed-upon tasks and projects. The rate of pay ranges depending on experience and skill level, or sometimes according to predetermined task-based flat rates.
