Job description

We are looking for an experienced In House Counsel to support legal operations related to collection and foreclosure matters in Highland Heights, Ohio. This Long-term Contract position will serve as a key advisor to internal teams, offering practical legal direction, strengthening outside counsel partnerships, and helping maintain high standards of compliance and service. The role is well suited for a licensed attorney who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on guidance across complex legal workflows.
Responsibilities:
• Advise litigation paralegals on legal strategy and procedural considerations across collection and foreclosure portfolios.
• Build and strengthen a nationwide network of external law firms by identifying geographic coverage needs, evaluating candidates, and guiding new firms through onboarding expectations.
• Establish clear service standards for outside counsel and track progress to help ensure files move forward on schedule and in line with client commitments.
• Evaluate the work of external attorneys, address performance concerns, and reinforce adherence to internal quality expectations and client requirements.
• Examine legal invoices submitted by outside firms to confirm billing accuracy, cost reasonableness, and compliance with approved billing rules.
• Provide day-to-day legal support to internal teams through training, coaching, and direction on best practices and procedural issues.
• Handle escalated questions involving collections, foreclosure actions, mechanic’s liens, preliminary notices, and other non-routine legal matters.
• Review legal filings, case approaches, and complex issues to deliver risk-based recommendations and practical next steps.• Active attorney license with at least 5 years of relevant legal experience.
• Demonstrated background in collections, foreclosure, commercial contracts, or related areas of corporate legal practice.
• Strong ability to interpret legal issues and provide sound, business-focused guidance to internal stakeholders.
• Experience working with outside counsel, including performance oversight, relationship management, and service expectation setting.
• Knowledge of invoice review practices and billing guideline compliance for legal services.
• Skill in contract drafting and contract negotiation within a legal environment that requires close attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach teams and explain legal concepts clearly.
• Strong organizational judgment and attention to detail when managing multiple matters simultaneously.
