About the Role:
The Client Controller is a hands-on accounting professional responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, and client communication for multiple external clients. This role owns each client relationship end-to-end, ensuring timely, accurate deliverables and strong client service.
This position requires prior Government Contracting (GovCon) accounting experience, including indirect rate structures, cost accounting, and compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA). Foundational GovCon knowledge is required and not trainable in this role. While primarily supporting GovCon clients, the role may also support a broader outsourced client portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:

Client Ownership & Communication
  • Serve as the primary accounting lead for multiple clients, owning deliverables, timelines, and communication.
  • Build trusted client relationships through responsiveness, accuracy, and proactive guidance.
  • Lead recurring client meetings to review financial results, trends, and upcoming needs.
  • Advise GovCon clients on compliance, indirect rates, and contract-driven financial impacts.
  • Clearly communicate FAR and DCAA expectations and contractor responsibilities.
Hands-On Accounting
  • Perform full-cycle accounting, including AP/AR, payroll coordination, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
  • Prepare timely, accurate financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain clean, organized, audit-ready books.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR Part 31, and allowable vs. unallowable cost requirements.
Reporting, Analysis & GovCon Support
  • Analyze financial results and deliver clear, actionable insights.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
  • Prepare and analyze indirect rate structures (overhead, G&A, fringe).
  • Assist with DCAA audits, incurred cost submissions, and rate discussions.
  • Support contract-level reporting, funding tracking, and compliance-driven analysis.
Internal Collaboration & Workflow
  • Coordinate with internal team members while retaining ownership of final deliverables.
  • Review work for accuracy and resolve issues as needed.
  • Contribute to standardized, GovCon-aligned processes and best practices.
Deadline & Priority Management
  • Manage multiple client calendars and deliverables without prompting.
  • Track and meet GovCon-specific deadlines, including audits and rate submissions.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 4-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting.
  • Experience in a client-facing, outsourced, or multi-entity environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and FAR-based cost accounting.
  • Experience with GovCon compliance, indirect rate structures, and DCAA audits.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and cloud-based systems; PROCAS and/or Unanet a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and competing priorities with accuracy and professionalism.
