Description

The Rail Car Verifier is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and contamination-free loading and verification of railcars. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality and operational integrity by verifying loading activities, assisting drivers with hook-up/break-down procedures, and communicating with the scale desk and operations teams. The Rail Car Verifier supports daily yard safety, cleanliness, and compliance with company procedures while upholding a high standard of customer service and accountability.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Railcar Verification & Driver Support

  • Verify that each driver is aligned with the correct railcar before loading begins.
  • Assist with vacuum trailer hook-up and break-down processes.
  • Monitor product transfer to ensure cleanliness and prevent contamination.
  • Communicate real-time loading updates and issues to the scale desk operator and yard leadership.

Equipment Use & Inspection

  • Conduct daily inspections of loading equipment, hoses, railcar valves, and vents to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Clean and maintain all assigned equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Understand and operate all tools and equipment needed for the job.

Safety & Yard Maintenance

  • Follow all company safety policies, SOPs, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
  • Report and assist in correcting any spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the rail loading areas and overall yard.
  • Accept accountability for any product or equipment damage and report incidents promptly.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain open communication with drivers, co-workers, and management regarding rail operations and safety concerns.
  • Support team collaboration while being self-directed and dependable in solo tasks.
  • Take direction from the Supervisor or Lead Associate and complete all tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year of experience in industrial, transportation, or yard operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of railcar valves, venting systems, vac trailers, and related load equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and contamination prevention practices.
