Job description

Location: Chicago, IL

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000

Group One Trading is seeking a Compliance Data Analyst to sit at the intersection of technology and compliance, building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our trade surveillance, investigations, and regulatory reporting programs. You'll work closely with the Compliance Team and technology departments to design analytical tools, optimize surveillance systems, and provide quantitative support for complex compliance matters. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills in Python and SQL with intellectual curiosity and a commitment to accuracy in a high-stakes environment.

WHO WE ARE

We are committed to creating a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. At Group One, we value transparency and collaboration coming from unique perspectives and backgrounds. We hire bright, analytical, and competitive people and train them to be the best in the industry. We strive to create a workplace in which all employees have an opportunity to participate and contribute to the success of the business. A healthy work-life balance is essential to sustaining our work culture and our overall success. We rely on our employees to spur creativity, enhance problem-solving, and help us thrive in the high-pressure trading industry.

WHAT WE DO

Group One Trading was founded in San Francisco in 1989, and we've become one of the largest privately held options trading firms in the United States, with brilliant people on our team in New York and Chicago. We continue to expand our presence on exchanges as the options trading space evolves and grows. Armed with expertise developed through a rigorous training program, our traders provide competitive liquidity across a broad range of securities. We manage portfolios of thousands of securities and electronically stream two-sided quotes across multiple exchanges. Group One is wholly owned by its founders and employees, and all our trading is proprietary, placing both the rewards for our success and managerial oversight directly in our team's hands.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, build, and maintain trade surveillance applications and analytical tools using Python and SQL
  • Create automated reports and dashboards for surveillance metrics, testing results, and compliance performance indicators
  • Configure and optimize surveillance system rules and parameters to improve detection effectiveness and reduce false positives
  • Develop custom detection algorithms and scenarios for specialized or emerging compliance risks
  • Provide advanced quantitative analysis for complex compliance investigations, including reconstruction of trading patterns and statistical anomaly detection
  • Create data visualizations to illustrate trading behavior for investigation reports and regulatory submissions
  • Support operational reporting to external compliance data platforms, including the Consolidated Audit Trail, ensuring data feeds are accurate, complete, and timely
  • Collaborate with the Data Platform and technology teams to identify data sources, maintain reporting infrastructure, and develop integrated solutions
  • Maintain detailed documentation of data processes, system configurations, and analytical methods
  • Provide technical training and guidance to compliance staff on data tools, query techniques, and analytical platforms
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience using data analysis libraries such as Pandas, Polars, and NumPy, and visualization tools such as Plotly, Matplotlib, or Seaborn
  • Experience building analytical tools from requirements through deployment
  • Familiarity with data visualization and dashboard platforms such as PowerBI, Grafana, or Jupyter
  • Experience querying large-scale datasets; MS SQL or similar big data technologies isa plus
  • Comfortable with Git version control and a Windows development environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, understandable explanations for non-technical compliance staff
  • Background in financial services, trading, or compliance environments preferred; proprietary trading firm, exchange, broker-dealer, or regulatory organization experience is a bonus
  • Familiarity with compliance surveillance systems or regulatory reporting is an advantage
  • Machine learning or statistical modeling experience for pattern detection or anomaly detection highly valued
  • FINRA SIE and Series 57 licenses required within six months of employment
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field with a demonstrated focus in a quantitative or technical field
  • This is a role that requires a significant in-office presence.
THE BENEFITS

Our Compliance Data Analyst earns a competitive salary, commensurate with experience. We provide fantastic benefits, including 401(k) and Roth 401(k) retirement plans with employer matching, medical, dental, vision, generous vacation time, paid holidays, parental leave, and flexible spending accounts (FSA) for health care, dependent daycare, and parking or mass transit expenses.
