Freelance Power Query information

What is a freelance Power Query?

Freelance Power Query professionals are independent experts who specialize in using Microsoft's Power Query tool to transform, clean, and analyze data for clients on a project basis. They work with organizations or individuals to automate data processes, build complex queries, and integrate data from multiple sources, often within Excel or Power BI environments. These freelancers typically offer flexible services, helping businesses improve efficiency and gain insights from their data without hiring full-time staff.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance Power Query specialist?

To thrive as a Freelance Power Query specialist, you need strong skills in data transformation, advanced Excel, and Power BI, often supported by certifications like Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate. Familiarity with Power Query Editor, M language, and other data integration tools is essential. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and client management abilities help you deliver tailored solutions and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. These competencies ensure you can efficiently translate complex data requirements into actionable insights, adding significant value to clients' business processes.

What are some common challenges freelance Power Query specialists face when working with clients remotely?

Freelance Power Query specialists often encounter challenges such as unclear data requirements, inconsistent data sources, and communication gaps with clients who may not be familiar with Power Query's capabilities. Managing expectations and ensuring clients provide timely access to necessary data can require proactive communication and strong project management skills. Additionally, freelancers should be prepared to troubleshoot complex data transformations independently and provide clear documentation so clients can maintain their queries after the project ends.

Job description

We're seeking a Growth & Signature Packaging Strategy Contractor to support our Consumer Video/Streaming business. This ongoing, full-time contract role sits at the intersection of consumer packaging strategy, pricing, and content decisioning - driving high-stakes business cases for Stream while bringing deep pay-TV, streaming, or telco expertise to the table. You'll translate quantitative signals into decision-ready recommendations, own Add/Drop decisioning as a core responsibility, and stress-test every recommendation with sharp analytical rigor and compelling storytelling. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you - apply today!
  • Pay rate:$60/hr on w2 to $68/hr on w2
  • Remote role

Responsibilities:
  • Support/lead consumer packaging and pricing business cases end-to-end for Stream - framing hypotheses, sizing the addressable market, weighing cannibalization risk against signature packages, and proposing low-investment test paths before a full build
  • Own Add/Drop decisioning as a core, recurring responsibility - evaluating which networks and content to add or remove based on cost, engagement, churn risk, and competitive positioning, and translating programming economics into clear consumer-packaging trade-offs
  • Direct and interpret quantitative work (market sizing, competitive pricing, customer surveys, UX and call-center signals, churn analysis) into a coherent, decision-ready point of view
  • Bring required pay-TV, streaming, or telco expertise - understanding how packages are built and marketed, how carriage and content economics work, and where contract or pricing "gray areas" create new opportunities rather than fixed constraints
  • Stress-test every recommendation against a credible opposing view and challenge stakeholder assumptions (while welcoming the same), backed by strong written and verbal storytelling

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced Excel/spreadsheet modeling (market sizing, pricing scenarios, sensitivity analysis)
  • SQL literacy - able to query, pull, and validate data independently (even if not writing complex production code)
  • Data interpretation and visualization (reading dashboards; building clear charts/tables in Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
  • Comfort with survey, UX, and call-center data sources and basic segmentation logic
  • Strong slide/narrative tooling (PowerPoint) to package analysis into decision-ready recommendations
  • Analytically fluent - hands-on coding is not required, but strong quantitative interpretation skills are essential

Nice to Have:
  • Databricks familiarity (notebooks, navigating a lakehouse environment)
  • Exposure to AI/LLM agents or automation for competitive and market monitoring
  • Python or R for lightweight analysis
  • Familiarity with subscriber/churn analytics or media-measurement data (Nielsen, Comscore, or internal viewership feeds)
  • Basic understanding of A/B or in-market test design

If you meet the required qualifications and are interested in this role, please apply today.
