Job description

PLC Software Engineer

Location: Macomb, MI
Schedule: 1st Shift | 7:00 AM Start
Travel: Approximately 35% Domestic (occasional international travel)


Job Overview:

We are seeking a Controls Software Engineer to support the design, programming, integration, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong PLC programming experience who enjoys taking projects from concept through customer start-up.

You'll work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop control systems, troubleshoot automation equipment, and support installations at customer facilities. This position offers the opportunity to work on advanced automation projects while helping improve engineering standards and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and program PLC and HMI control systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Create PLC ladder logic and machine code from the ground up.
  • Configure drives, troubleshoot controls, and perform software testing.
  • Support machine commissioning, start-up, and validation at customer facilities.
  • Debug and resolve software and electrical control issues during installation and production.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers throughout project execution.
  • Develop and maintain software documentation and engineering standards.
  • Research and implement new automation technologies to improve system performance.
  • Assist with project reporting, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle from design through customer acceptance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience programming PLCs from scratch using ladder logic.
  • Experience developing HMI applications.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical control systems.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms.
  • Experience with Siemens PLC platforms.
  • Experience programming in C# (C Sharp).
  • Ability to troubleshoot automation systems during commissioning and start-up.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Must be eligible to meet U.S. Export Control requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • C++ programming experience.
  • Experience configuring industrial drives and motion control systems.
  • Background supporting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working through complete project lifecycles from design through installation.
