Purpose of the position: As Offshore Structural Engineer, you will respond to the Offshore Structural Lead and be part of the Asset Based Business Line within the Engineering function. You will support the ongoing EPCI projects that Saipem has in the Americas region performing structural calculations, design for lifting and rigging, and seafastening.
How can you support us? Here below your responsibilities:
  • In charge of the design of incorporated subsea structures and/or associated installation aids and sea-fastening, for deepwater and shallow water field development.
  • Perform technical tasks assigned by the Subsea Structural Lead such as structural analyses, calculations, design, verification or study activities, specification/requisition writing.
  • Provide data to Designers to allow the creation of 3D and 2D design drawings. Review the design drawings.
  • Interface with other Project Specialists (installation, geotechnical, flowline, subsea equipment, fabrication, etc.) and Designers.
  • Cumulate an experience about the design limitation and constraint imposed by offshore installation and related vessels.
  • Provide support to the Subsea Structural lead for coordination and review of technical activities performed inside or outside Saipem.
  • Participate and contribute to:
    • Project progress meeting,
    • Engineering coordination meetings
    • Interface meetings with Client, other Contractors and Sub-Contractors
    • Technical review meeting (concerning Procurement, Engineering, Fabrication, Operation, Interface)
    • HSE meetings
    • Risk Assessment
  • Design structural systems and components, pursuing objectives of robust engineering and design optimization in term of costs, fabrication simplicity, constructability and safety, in particular
  • Select the most relevant design loads and boundary condition to maximize the installation and in-place acceptable configurations, even unexpected, but always reasonably
  • Check the selected design comply with all the structure functionalities, including constructability and offshore installability constraints
  • Select the profiles and materials as standard as possible to simplify the procurement. Local procurement can be a constraint if requested by the project
  • Check the permanent structures are sufficiently reliable for a long time, without maintenance during the subsea field life.
  • Particularly considering need of redundancy, high reliability, as well as corrosion and fatigue aspect
  • Check that the installation aids are focused on the operational practicality and on the safety of workers
  • For permanent structure, liaise with other Project discipline team (offshore installation, geotechnical, flowline, subsea equipment, fabrication, material, etc.), whenever required for a proper completion of the work assigned, particularly to obtain the confirmation of the preliminary load cases or fabrication assumption considered at start of the project
  • For installation aids structure, liaise with Installation method team in order to clarify the functional scope of work used as basis and to define the technical structural solution
  • Carry out/Check/Supervise structural analyses. Particularly, define own load and boundary condition assumption, as well as the good level of modelization (hand calculation, beam model, FEA model), sufficient to provide the demonstration of the structure capacity
  • Use the industry calculation software following the user manual, for a good selection and application of the numerical tools Interface with Designer to Provide data necessary for the creation of 3D and 2D design drawings (including geometrical, material, welding, tolerance and functional data). Supervise/Approve steel structures design drawings
  • Review Client technical documentation and requirements. Answers to the Client comments
  • Contribute to define structural design premises
  • Write design reports and calculation notes
  • Supervise setting up of bill of quantities or material take off (MTO)

What are we looking for?
Education: Master's Degree/bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical or civil)
Experience: 3-5 years as a structural engineer within Offshore Oil and Gas / Wind industries
Languages: English
Technical Skills: see above
IT Skills: Knowledge of FEA suites (SACS, and ABAQUS or ANSYS) and CAD (Autocad, Inventor or Solidworks)
