Job description

General Obstetrics and Gynecology | OBGYN | SOM | M67787

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking qualified candidates to provide specialty care in General Obstetrics and Gynecology at VCU Health. This position is designed to provide care primarily in general Obstetrics and Gynecology, including surgery, in- and outpatient consultation and performance of therapeutic procedures. This position will include participation in student and resident education.

The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both general and specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education in the field and advancing the field through basic and clinical research.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities to include actively participating in the department's educational activities, with particular attention to educating students and residents in their core educational objectives in general obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Research: The person filling this position is encouraged to initiate clinical research projects. They are expected to participate in and facilitate other department research and contribute to scholarly publications/presentations.
  • Service: The faculty member will serve on departmental, health system, and university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field. The faculty member will be assigned to committees at the discretion of the division director and department chair.
  • Clinical: Full participation in the clinical activities of the general obstetrics and gynecology division is expected. Clinical activities are to be determined by the general obstetrics and gynecology division head and are expected to include a combination of clinic, inpatient care, surgery, and participation in nighttime call duties as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency
  • Eligible for Virginia medical license
  • Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated talent and experience in teaching and commitment to research, and patient care
  • BC/BE by the American Board of OB/GYN
