Job description

Onward Education is a specialized education staffing and talent solutions company that helps educators, therapists, and school health professionals find top jobs with the nation's leading schools. We're partnering with a school district in Young County, Texas to hire a dedicated School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT) for the 2026-2027 school year.

This onsite opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact supporting K-12 students through functional evaluations, intervention planning, collaboration with educators and families, and services aligned to IEPs and 504 Plans. In this role, you'll help students access the curriculum and participate fully in school routines by strengthening fine motor, sensory regulation, classroom participation, and independence skills.

Position Details:
  • Location: Onsite in Young County, TX
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday
  • Weekly Hours: 30 hours per week
  • School Year: 2026-2027
  • Grade Levels: K-12
  • Position Type: Contract (W2)
Responsibilities:
  • Provide school-based OT services aligned with students' IEPs and 504 Plans, focused on functional, educational outcomes.
  • Conduct OT evaluations in the school setting (as appropriate), including observation and functional assessment of school participation needs.
  • Support fine motor development (handwriting, cutting, classroom tool use, visual-motor integration).
  • Address gross motor and foundational skills (posture, balance, coordination) as they relate to classroom access and school participation.
  • Develop and implement sensory and self-regulation strategies to support attention, behavior, and learning (e.g., sensory breaks, environmental supports).
  • Recommend and train students/staff on adaptive tools/equipment (pencil grips, slant boards, seating supports, adaptive scissors, etc.).
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote carryover of strategies across settings.
  • Write/maintain required documentation and progress monitoring to ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Active Occupational Therapist license (required)
  • School-based OT experience and familiarity with IEP/504 processes preferred
  • Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
